Bg-42 Still Available?

...Getting back to the BG-42 question...I might have missed something in another thread somewhere but I don't think we've actually heard from Joe that BG-42 is actually forever gone...I've heard a few possible reasons for smaller makers to be having a rough time getting it but it was for a reason that should NOT affect large manufacturers like Buck...The outrageous cost for shipping small quantities...I'd sure like to know definitively whether I'll be able to get BG-42 again eventually or not. Has anyone heard anything for sure either way???...

Well I still haven't heard from them regarding my knife (ordered and paid for bg-42 got ats-34) I like the knife and wouldnt send it back since it took 3 months to get, and several ignored emails, but they could at least acknowledge a customer. But they make it hard to recommend them to friends.

Same for me, except I got S30V instead of BG-42...and am still waiting for replies to emails... :grumpy:

Guyon, if you have the option of getting the new CPM 154 as a substitute for the BG42, I really don't think you'll be too disappointed. It's pretty good stuff too.

I cannot speak for the rest of the staff at Buck, but Joe Houser has never failed to answer my emails. I was lucky enough to speak with him by phone two weeks ago. He tells me the Damascus and BG-42 are in short supply.

Damascus upgrade is $85.00, not available via website. He also told me if I ordered the BG-42 via website, I would get it.

He indicated that the S30V would be taking the place of BG-42 for the Custom Shoppe. When ?? who knows?

FYI: Joe's email is JHouser@buckknives.com

I always email Joe, I have went through the web site for email and also never had any replies. Either that or I call them direct, then they are great with the customer service! I am unsure of the problem with the email?
Joe is great though- just really busy :D He does reply though, and always has had the answers (for me at least :D)

I too had a hard time contacting Buck :( What makes it worse is that I am not in the USA and I can't get my treasured 4 dot 110 fixed

I just live one state away from them and I have had a horrible time getting any response from them, I have tried email, and phone calls with no results!! I am trying to reach the custom shop, Customer service is great till they transfer me to the custom shop where I get an answering machine, I have emailed joe houser from here with no response, I have emailed the factory with no response, I'm starting to get bummed out by it.

Joe usually gets back to ya right away. Although I did email him on the 26th and I have not heard from him yet. To much work and no play. He deserves a vacation at least once a month.

solocam,

I suspect some of their incoming mail gets filtered off as spam by their default spam filter.

I just ordered a 110 custom,I think? When I ordered and they asked to hit button and order it took me back to the preivious screen, and am not sure it took it.I dont wont to do it agin and possibly duplicate my order.I didnt recieve any kind of confermation, and could not find there email address. So I called and no response,I'm still wondering if even got an order in.This all happened yesterday(Friday late). Can anyone shoot me their email address,I will try calling monday but it sounds like I will need alot of luck.

Well...I got good news and no news.

1> Good News: Buck got back to me and let me know that the 110 DamSam I ordered in Sept is still on the line.

2> Good News: A 403 Big Sky I wanted, they found one. So that makes two "in the mail" as I also snagged one on the Bay.

3> No News: Did not address my question in e-mail regarding a 110 BG-42 I want to order.

So...no official word on BG-42 supply so far as I know.

I have one in transit, 110NS BG-42...thanks to a lead from El Pollo Loco...
Does anyone know if Buck will re-scale it?

well still no response from them, I guess they reserve the right to subtitute whatever steel they have(ats-34 being subbed for the bg-42. I still like the knife , even though I don't merit a response.

I sent in some 110's for BG-42 upgrade in November and was told by Joe that the quantity of available BG-42 was very small and he wouldn't be able to fit all five of the knives I sent with it. The good news is the remaining knives were fitted with S30V blades, not ATS-34. The S30V blades that came back are Idaho stamp (1995), satin finish (no anodized coating) and have the BOS stamp.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Jim
