call the Custom Shop and request BG-42...You're welcome... :grumpy:
As the the letters/numerical designation....BG-42, ATS-34, 154CM, etc...those are all trademarked marketing names...They don't reflect any specific alloy content...they're just
names...Like Nylon©, Linoleum©, Kool-Ade©, etc...
That particular brand of steel doesn't have to be made by the trademark holder, either...but if it is marketed as such, then a fee (and an agreement) must be made to/with the trademark holder...
And some steels
are the same, metallurgically...even though they have different trademark names...but they may be heat treated differently, or rolled differently [hot vs cold], and therefore exhibit different characteristics...
All this has been gone over in the past, here in the Buck forum, and there are some great links to steel mfgs, knife makers, etc...
