Bg-42

So you agree with Pete that 154CM and BG-42 are the same steel?

That's news.

And.....while your advice to call and ask about BG-42 was good.....at the time you gave it, the Custom Shop didn't know what they had.

If they did, they sure weren't sharing information.

I haven't heard anything back on my order yet. Guess they are swamped for now, which I guess is a good thing.

It is a good day! I talked to Pete at Buck and found out I am getting BG-42 on my custom 110. I was a little sad when I thought they were not using BG-42 anymore! I cannot wait to get my knife!

I am a bit ticked off about the mis-information about the BG42 on the CS site. Because it didn't say anything about BG42, I didn't order anything and take advantage of the 15% thing.

So that was another mess up that didn't get corrected when the pricing thing did. Yeah, it is a little late in the week for this, but I have been in and out too much to keep up with it all.

So,,, I could still vote for at least a minimal tar and feather thing.:rolleyes::D:D

For me, a factory fresh BG42 will slice thinner slivers of paper that a factory fresh S30V, 154, 420. Yeah...a real test huh...just something I noticed. just sayin...

So has the website been fixed ? (I haven't looked) or do I need to go fire up the tarpot and pluck a chicken

......

*Real* men use feathers from a goose-down pillow... :grumpy:

...Count me in for the tar & feathering... :D:thumbup:

Ya know what, PR? I would call Pete or Joe and tell them what you just told us. I think it would be worth the call.

+1

And while you're at it, Packy, start a new thread with a title that will catch Joe's eye... :D:thumbup:

I also am really fed up with all the incorrect crap on the new site...Fire the web site creator; bring back the old site; and tar & feather Joe...

...Just because... :D

How many times must one call Pete and leave a callback number/message before he returns it? The answer message does at least identify himslf as Pete - Ext 180 - right?

I remember more than a little difficulty getting him by phone last summer/fall, when I had my other orders. I guess he's busy. Is there a secret handshake? BCCI number? What's the 15% about? Yeah, been under a rock for a while.

I thought about doing just that, but decided I would just bitch about it instead..lol..... more fun....

But mainly because I ordered a BG42 FIJI, ns, fg, no pins, back a few months ago as a user. I gotta get back on the Buck Anon wagon before I loose control, again.

Sooo, I don't have any right to complain. just thought it would be fun to see the chicken and goose feathers fly. :D:D

ok...headed back to the garage to see if I have any turkey feathers left..

Nah Trax, we better leave Joe alone. with the job he has I figure he is into this T&F thang and we don't want him having too much fun. :D:D

I like my BG-42 110, but I think I like my ATS-34 one better.

Hmmm...that's interesting, Allen. I really like ATS-34, but what have you found the difference to be vs. BG-42? I have found in general that ATS-34 seems to have a more 'aggressive' (read that as toothy) edge than BG-42.

Well, there was a bit of a Charlie Foxtrot to do with the Custom Shoppe website. It seems that much of the pricing ended up as 2x retail rather than the actual retail. The prices caused such a commotion that Buck offered a one time only discount of 15% on the actual retail prices, however it only applied to orders placed between May 31 to June 2 at 12pm. But that's not all, it gets better. BG-42 was not listed as a steel option on the new site, so many people ordered 154CM or S30V instead. Well, it seems that BG-42 was in fact available, but had been mislabeled as 154CM, so Pete has been calling people who ordered 154CM to correct the error. That's it in a nutshell.

It could just be me, but I have a harder time getting BG-42 as sharp as I can get the ATS-34 (using my Spyderco Sharpmaker).

Performance wise, I can't tell much difference except that the ATS-34 seems so stain and discolor easier.
But nothing that Maas metal polish can't fix. ;)

Well, I gargled with mouthwash after lunch - and before the second call. Must have helped... talked to Pete - still as nice as can be. I have my third CS 110 on it's way (4-5 weeks) - a BG-42 (He said they have plenty!) with NS bolsters, waterbuffalo scales (Odd -they were jigged for ~$30 before - now jigged is $107.50... I'll love plain at $37!), and fg - with nylon sheath (I have a drawer full of stinky leather ones!). I am excited!

I wanted that sambar stag AG-110 - with NS instead of brass and polished S30V, a la my Kalinga Pro's. Wishing won't change that anymore than solvents will remove the Al-Ti-N black finish on the AG - it'd have to be buffed out. I am trying to get properly psyched to order the stag AG 110 anyway - Cabela's has a $20 off $150 purchase coupon they are sending out now - or that '68free' free s/h special until June 23. Heck, if I do nothing, that BG-42 goodie will get here about the time my 'economic adjustment' check arrives (Supposed to be sent by July 4th.).

Decisions!

PS Jigged... Hmmm, I have a Foredom and some stones...

I think Pete is a little mixed up... :)

It's ATS-34 that is virtually the exact same alloy as 154 CM...

Here's some interesting knife steel pages (with steels descriptions)...

http://users.ameritech.net/knives/steels.htm

http://www.sff.net/people/pff/steel.txt

There are others; DarrylS and I passed some links back & forth some time back... ;)

Thanks for the links.

This whole thing has been fun and educational .... I just hope those who didn't order because they wanted BG-42 (I mean when it supposedly WASN'T available) can get an order in now and get that 15% discount.
