BHQ Excl. Lum Tanto?

I've had mine for a few hours. Incredible shipping time, thanks BladeHQ.
This is the first Lum tanto I've ever handled. It is slim and beefy at the same time.
Out of the box the centering was pretty bad, and the body screws were all quite loose. I heard a jingling sound when I handled it, so I tightened the screws. The sound turned out to be the loose fitting laynard tube (still jingles).
This is the best centering I can get, with the pivot tightened to 105% and the stop pin near falling out loose:rolleyes:.
Ah well.

Hard to capture, but the blade is mighty close to one liner.

yeah mines like yours. im okay with it as im gonna use it so it will get scratched up anyways.

Do you think there is a fix for that? Id hate to waste spydercos time and money on something that is ' within tolerances'
Id like to see if others come in perfect, then I'll maybe contact them.

id bet theyre within tolerances.....mine is right on the edge but under light isnt touching. paper thick gap give or take. blade centering not closer to the middle is annoying but for a user i can live with it. if mine was gonna be a collector id be more disappointed.

To get my blade off the liner I need the pivot so tight that you need two hands to open it. So then I loosened the stop pin screw, to reduce pivot tension. Now it's stiff and off center:(

I've got some various pb washers I could try, but Im not gonna open it up until I decide if I want to keep it.

Have you guys loosened all the scale screws and done some flexing on the G 10? I’ve gotten a lot of spydies centered that way.

I’ve had teo spidies that started about that close to the scale and after some use they were lightly touching. Don’t want that to happen here.

Got mine today, came pretty centered (maybe a hair off) solid lockup and no blade play. I'm glad I only got one though, I really don't see this getting much carry time. I'm not sure how I feel about the teflon washers, gives it a very smooth action though. It's a neat knife and I guess ok for the price but you'd have to be nuts IMO to pay the inflated Bay prices for one of these.

With its family (I know, i'm missing the non-DLC Manix, dropped the ball on that one)

I've tried everything with the screws. I have not taken it apart though.

Ya it probably wouldn’t make a difference taking it all the way apart. Couldn’t hurt, if you know your going to keep it regardless.

There was really only 1 or 2 knives that I could never get centered. It came down to the blade itself being ground uneven.

I'll be receiving mine tomorrow but the off centering issues being are certainly disconcerting. My joy and excitement is already morphing into: whatevs! But if mine is anywhere near what this other fella's shows as being so close to the scales, it's be returned to BHQ. if it comes just a bit or hair off center, I can live with it.

OT: My LionSteel CK-Shuffler also came a hair off center but the uniqueness of the design plus the super steel used made it a one off keeper / user. I'll report back mañana.

I have enough knives to fill the user role without another one at $200+. If mine isn’t right, back to Utah it goes. I won’t even touch the screws.

ToxicBot11, good point, I probably should have done a better job explaining myself. Should you wish to keep the knife, then only Spyderco can fix it. The only thing the HQ can do is offer a refund. Unhappy consumers will have to make a decision. Mine arrives today and if my knife mimic’s Babalu32’s experience then I will be asking for a refund. Time will tell.

Mine is centered, smooth. No issues. Maybe just a couple duds made it out.

Maybe because this was a Seki City production?

I like it, but I’m not blow away. I just wanted a Lum Tanto, this was my only option. Maybe it’ll make a comeback as a regular production. I’d be happy with a s30v and standard g10 version.
