BHQ Excl. Lum Tanto?

Centering all good here. Grind might be a bit off.

90% of my Spyderco knives are from Golden/Taiwan so I’m not too familiar with Seki knives other than the FRN’s. This just doesn’t feel like a $220 Spyderco to me. I’m keeping it for sure, but the fit and finish is definitely a step down. Almost feels like an Emerson with the action and F&F.

That chunk of g10 missing is supposed to be like that. A relief to better acess the hole. Mine has it.

I think that portion of g10 is supposed to be missing. Mine has it as well and it looks intentionally put there. Not going to dig my gray one out at the moment but I feel like I remember it having that also.

Edit: baba beat me to it.

Thanks Fellas. I was going to keep it but this cements it more

I read somewhere that the outee layer steel is soft and can easily scratch up. Is that true?
Well, mine came in and I had the same problem. Off center to the point where it’s almost touching. The action is extremely stiff, and when deploying, it has an audible sound. It could just be the washers? This is my first knife with Teflon washers, so I don’t know. I adjusted the screws as well, but had no luck. I tried a dab of oil. It might have helped a bit, but not a lot.

Mine also has lock stick, but I’m sure that would be easily resolved with some graphite.

Besides the flaws on mine, it’s a beautiful blade. I’ve wanted a Lum for a long time.

I’m just not sure though. It might be going back, but I hate the idea of it.

I have two folders on Teflon washers (Hinderer XM-18s) and both are flawless.

yes. 420 is pretty soft relative to the hap40 and other higher level stainless......it will scratch up if used on cutting certain items.

C5FBB801-B956-4714-A09F-5D0FF3C6294E.jpeg This weeks purchases. The KW Military is perfection and an amazing deal. It has utterly impressed me. The Lum Tanto....meh. The centering is off and is similar to ScooterG’s pic. Slight lock stick is present. Action is deliberate and fairly smooth. I like the mirror finish on the liners. Blade grinds are great and factory sharpness is scary.

The Lum just doesn’t exude quality when compared to this Military. Don’t get me wrong, I like it and will keep/carry the Lum but It does not feel like a $220 Knife. Hopefully it will grow on me in the future. This week the Lum Tanto had the unfortunate position of having to take a pic with a super model.

Would agree. The blade is well ground and really sharp, per usual. The G10 is spot on too. Just need to start using it.

We’ll...guess I spoke too soon. Looks it’s going back.

Dammit for posting that! Mine is also scratchy when I put my ear near to it. Ah well, perhaps best to not keep a knife that I didn't fall in love with. BHQ & Spydie, this one is quite a mixed bag and NOT a home run.

Oil the detent ball. From what others say, it should break in over time. Can’t blame you if you do return it though. I keep going back and forth.

This isn't just near my ear. It's very noticeable. Also, it wasn't like this until I opened 10-12 times.

Mine was scratchy rough until I thought to oil the thing. Immediately smoother. It comes bone dry.

No noise like that here. Though I put a couple of drops of lubricant in the pivot and it opens much better now. Can open via thumb or middle finger. Though now I have a bit of excess lube behind the scale. *facepalm*

I have lube stains under the scales too, ha ha. What the hell, I stropped it up and it’s a user now.

If something can be destroyed/ruined or generally screwed up, my dumbass will find a way.
In some ways, the Lum Tanto reminds me of my Gayle Bradley 2.

Wow put me down for both problems. The center is way right. The blade isn't touching but damn close!
I saw the grinding posts so before I even opened it up I dropped some oil in. It wicks halfway up the scales. LOL no scratchyness
I'm not playing with returns. I'll live with it.

Blade grinds are cleaner and crisper than my grey Lum
