BHQ M4 Shaman!?!

Was curious if I sent it back if it would be something that would be covered under warranty?

If you received the knife from BHQ in the condition described and as posted in the image, you should either be able to return it to the dealer or Spyderco depending on whether you seek a refund, a repair or a replacement (if one were available).

If you received it from a private party in the condition reported and it wasn't disclosed to you, I'd also demand satisfaction.

I got it fro Bhq. I would like to keep it but I am disappointed that it is chipped and the lock has a burr. If I returned it I'm sure they don't have any more to replace it.

Yeah I was thinking they could sharpen it and massage the lock bar a little. I'm not sure if they withhold units for warranty replacement, but since it's new that's what I'd be asking for.

My lock bar was a little sticky at first, just worked it real good for a day and it's nice and broken in now.

nice, I got tomorrow off, plan on doing it to mine. Still up in the air about color, some shade of blue or green, I can't decide

Those turned out really nice!  Recipe?

My new M4 Shaman. I'm really liking this knife!!! Hope to see more exclusives of this model, in some other steels. I could see these kicking the PM2's out of my pocket. Very comfortable design, and a nice, beefy blade that still cuts quite well. Definitely enjoying mine! :D

Forced patina on blade using mustard a couple days after I got it. Turned out nicely, but hard to capture on camera. The whole blade looks like the first half does, but have to get it in the light right to see it. Will likely be dying the scales blue soon (but that orange turned out pretty darn nice, hmm).

Nice shot. The jade scales look so good. Jealous I couldn't afford one.

I was going for russet orange from the attached RIT guide - 3/4 cup of sunshine orange and 1 tablespoon each of tan and purple combined with 3 tablespoons of white vinegar and a few dashes of salt in about 1.5 cups of water. Let it simmer for around 30 minutes and it was still very light so I let it soak off the stove for about two more hours.

I have this knife and a few things bug me about my knive. For one thing, that blade is very tight and I don't see how it could ever get to 'drop closed' status. Any ideas how to correct this? I loosened the pivot, but had to tighten again because it got too loose and rattled a bit when I compressed the lock and let it fall closed.

Flick your wrist the slightest bit and it closes perfectly fine. It does smoothen up more with use.

A lot of people have adjusted their knives to drop free to close, but they weren't designed for that specifically, so just because it doesn't do it doesn't mean theres something wrong with it. Its Its kinda like when people complain they cant fancy "finger flick" a spyderco. >shrug<

Thanks for that! I was planning to go with blue on mine, but you have me second guessing that plan now.

At some point of your knife hobby, you will not care about drop shut. To me it is purely for entertainment and it has nothing to do with the quality of the knife or the actual use. But since you care about it at this point, here are a few things you can try.

Disassemble the knife, polish the washers carefully, and give the knife a thorough cleaning and lubing. When putting everything back, adjust the pivot screw gradually and patiently. You can go from a very tight pivot, loosen it bit by bit and every time make sure there is no side to side blade play. For most knives, you will find the sweet spot where the blade is (or is close to) free dropping while no blade play (but loose a bit more will introduce blade play). That's where you stop.

Well, it looks like I'll finally get a seat at the table. Just picked one up at a reasonable price in the "exchange".

See, my saying all those nice things about Nick Shabazz getting one up front brought me some good karma. (Or maybe I should just shut up until I get it in hand. :p)

All the K390 love aside, I love M4...and made in USA.
