People always ask me, what is you favorete knife size? My answer is always the same, large blades from 6" to 10" and I always get the same reaction! They say "what the heck are you gunna use that for?" ugh!!! I hate when people say crap like that! Last year when I went hunting with a few buddies I took my BK9 along with me and they made fun of me the whole time calling me "Rambo" and what not but when it came down to making a quick brush blind guess who got it done? Yours truly! You see with a BK9 I can do everything anyone else can do with their Mora's and then some! Can you chop through a tree trunk with your little skinner? I can! I know the whole small vs big blade debate has run its corse but I can't stand when people poke at me for using such a big blade. I love smaller blades too but when I take one and only one I prefere my bk9.....ok I'm done venting now :sorrow::applause:

lol i am an unashamed big "KNIFE" blade hater
well perhaps hater is a bad choice of word, perhaps its best to say, i believe a big knife is unnecessary :D

if i want/need a big blade, what can your bk9 do that my 12" ontario machete cant?
and since i always edc a small folder (SAK or Buck 301) i think i am pretty good.

just not a fan of a BIG knife, but hey, if it makes you happy, more power to you!
different strokes for different folks and all that jazz, enjoy your bk9

I like knives in all sizes. I typically carry at least two knives in the woods.

For khukris, I like 'em BIG. 20" - 23" overall length works best for me.

Machetes: I like 'em in the 18" - 20" blade length.

Tomahawks: I gotta have a minimum length 20" haft, but over 24" is a bit much.

For most knives I prefer 5" - 8" depending on what I'm doing, but sometimes I gotta have something substantial and bigger... or smaller.

With my BK9 I can do the smallest tasks on up to the largest! I can chop anything from twigs to tree trunks, I can baton through an 8" log faster and with less work, in a defense situation I have way more reach, penetration and momentum. Can your small/short blade do these things? Or at least do them with ease working less and burning fewer calories? I also love all knives and don't get me wrong small blades have their place, just not in the woods with me unless it's abackup knife! How about this? We can each take a wood pile with logs/branches of equal shape and size and let's see who can process it more faster using less work.Oh and if a mountian lion jumps on your back what knife would you rather me use to save you? Your small knife or my King Becker BK9.... That's what I thought! :p

Honestly in the mountain lion situation, I'd rather have a smaller blade, I'm going to most likely blind swinging the blade, and with a smaller blade there is less likelihood of me stabbing myself in the back or decapitating myself.

I like to carry my 11 inch Busse Basic 11, paried with a 4 inch CABS, and am always good to go.

If I had to climb a mountain, I am not going to be packing more weight, but if car camping, canoe camping, or light hiking, why not carry a bigger blade that can do more.

You go ahead and do that lol I would much rather use my .45 but given the choice I will take my BK9. Have you held a BK9? For a larg blade it is extremely fast in hand and actually lighter than a BK2. Hell it's even named the "Combat Bowie"! They gave it that name for a reason ;)

Come on where are my BK9 buddies to back me up! :D

Just carried mine today. It was perfect on my hike to Mt. Baldy on my hip. I didn't make any fires, just practices making feather sticks, kindling, and chopping some branches off logs and down to size. I could do the wood processing with my Tak 1, but I know I couldn't do any chopping with it, so the BK9 takes the place of a hatchet and small fixed blade. Perfect.

The BK-9 can't compete with the BK-5 when it comes to fast handling agility in a large knife. I put the micarta handles on my 5 and it went from being quick to being scary quick. If I had to use a Becker as my main edged weapon, none compare to the BK-5. I *know* what thing is capable of doing to flesh, and it does it fast.

Exactly! And also there is good weight and bad weight when climbing/hiking. A BK9 to me is good weight!

I agree 100%. Like Ethan says..."think .300 mag vs .223"

My 9 goes with me always...and...a small knife to do the tiny work. People just need to grow up about the big vs small blade garbage...a knife is a knife, a bad knife is an unusable one and a good one is an absolute wonderful thing..dwell on those two things and just live youre life and dont sweat the small stuff, there are more important things to worry about.

Who cares what anyone else thinks.
Be your own man and carry what you want.
Most people are idiots anyways, myself included.

Not a nine but its a good one.

It is easier to make a large knife do smaller tasks well, than it is to make a small knife do large tasks well !!!

I'm just sayin'. :D

Yeah but there's a lot of sheeple out there who think the only reason one would carry a large knife is to use it as a weapon.

They don't realize a blade of only a few inches can reach the human heart and would have no troubles cutting someone's throat.

When I met my city girl wife she was freaked out the first time I took her out in the woods and I had a machete. When I used it to clear a path through some multiflora rose, then she understood.

When I go into the woods, I take a hatchet, axe, and splitting maul. Oh yeah, and a sherpa.
There's nothing I can't 'process'. So there.

y'all are makin' me want a 9. stopit.
Oh good, TB threw in a 4 pic. that's what I need.

actually, I seldom hike anywhere that slashing at the flora wouldn't be frowned upon, but I like the idea of putting together a deer blind quickly.
One of these days I'll pick up a 4 and/or a good 'hawk and pair that with my smaller fixed blade, usually 3".

This is the best way of instruction/conversion.
