Big brother is watching me...

Trovao, you are dead wrong. I do collect clocks. I have several over 100 years old, several other antique clocks, and many more than I need to read the time. Beautiful clocks. Marvelous feats of engineering. Most first time visitors to my house marvel at my clocks, at the symphony every hour on the hour. I have many, many more knives, flashlights, watches, coins, paintings, and women's shoes than I need. No Elvis on velvet here, but if that's your thing, great. I have survival knives that I don't plan on surviving with, and Roman coins I don't plan on spending. Maybe YOU don't get it? I bet you wear "tennis" shoes, heheheh. My sig is a tongue in cheek bastardization of a most beautiful philosophy poetically authored by a 12th century Persian tentmaker named Omar. OK if I keep it?

Stump and Tombstone,

You have to remember that I was a club member during the tail end of the war. Local law enforcement here kept a file on anyone that might be a 'radical.' In Madison, these are called 'The Affinity Files' and 'The Affinity Squad.'

Strangely, a radical named Paul Soglin was photographed (and arrested) quite a few times. He went on to become one of Madison's most successful aldermen, and then MAYOR. It was the wild 1960's.

My club, The C.C. Riders were also known to the police. We were perceived, correctly, as more of a fraternity on wheels, not a rolling crime family. We partied a lot with The Blue Knights, a police motorcycle club. The cops knew us by name. I was once pulled over because a new sticker was missing from my bike on my first ride of the spring season. I didn't know the cop, but he called me by my first name, told me that I should have known better 'as a professional' and let me go.

My file, my picture, my known associates, probably pictures of my bikes and girl friends are undoubtedly packed away in some cardboard box in our City County Building. I am now a respected credit manager, often called for consulting. Only once did an employer laugh and tell me he was surprised by my three-piece suit, and not a leather jacket. Madison is the biggest small town in the world.

The 1960's? Hell, I was there.

The last time I was in the uk I stayed at a Hilton for a few nights with my brother. Strangly, when I showered the mirror in the bathroom didn't fog up in the middle.so we pulled the mirror away from the wall and saw a couple of wires going into the wall. I gave em the ol snip with my Leatherman Wave. A painting in the bedroom also had wires going into it. I took care of those as well.

As far as I've heard, those were audio monitoring devises. Something like they have a system to determing potential problems. Like saying "I've got the BOMB, do you have the VELCRO to stick it to the QUEEN" can get a SWAT team sent to your room or something.

What to make of this? There's not really anything I can do, I'm not a criminal, and I'm busy. But I'm sure I'll complain with the rest of them when **** gets worse.

Trovoa a lot of the stuff you ask/complain about would be clear I think if you'd read all the posts in this thread.

trollvao: What is clear as a bell is a noob talking trash on day 1. Let me guess...Your fav book is'How To Win Friends and Influence People'? Is this a drive by, a bad day, or foreshadowing?

You have the right to think what you want. So do I. And don't start with the forum snob, elitist, post count crap. Post counts mean nothing to anyone except forum dweebs like you. Tchau.

It would be advantageous of a moderator to step in here.

Trovao: your posts have been anything but helpful and are seemingly made for the purpose of inciting a problem. There doesn't need to be a problem. If you have a concern, voice it through private email to a moderator. If you don't have a ligitimate concern...

Uh huh, and I am SO interested in reading your pontifications, from the height of your five posts, on the subject of "forum elitism".

Lose the attitude, trovao, or you won't be here long.

It was the sig that set me off after listening to the original poster complaining. I don't hunt, never have, but I know many people that do and they have a hard enough time keeping that right so I spoke up and always will. Don't threaten me, if you want me out then do it.

Please, let's leave the paranoia at home, shall we? I'm not a mod, I don't issue threats, nor can I ban anyone.

Just a word to the wise, that's all .....

Do I seem paranoid? Please explain. That sig could only have been worded that way to incite an argument. I took the bait for sure.

Stich and trovano,

I've tried to follow your stuff, and if you're trying to insult each other you are literally making "an offer they don't understand."

It's not that we don't let children play now and then, but if you want the adults to respond, you'll have to quit passing out nuggies, yelling 'pull my finger' and at least say something we can all read for understanding.

Quite frankly, it's easy to skip your stuff. To that end, I think Spark should step in the moment you clods started tossing around the word 'threat.' The moment someone types that word they should be banned immediately.

Read Sharp Phil treatise on trolls. You both are trolls, and I wish we had some kind of 'hole' to toss you both into until you learned to play nice.

Now go get an adult and have him read all of these big words to you. Consider it a blessing that your mom doesn't take away your computer privileges.

After reading the first several posts, I got so bummed out that I couldn't continue reading (sorry).

Hey guy, tell your mom she can either be your "probation (for life) officer", or your Mom, not both.

Make her choose.

And for us American knifenuts:
I am afraid that this same absurd, over the top police spying that this Belgian fellow reports will happen to us, soon enough. With the same hysterical/fearful enforcement.

---------
Actually, this thread bums me out so badly, I'm at a loss.

"pul-leeeze"?

That's it? That's your best shot?

As you may know, the debate and the refute of different points of view is where the wheat is separated from the tares here. Get into a ear-pulling contest with, say, Komondor, and he'll berate you with words that you cannot find in your mom's thesarus. Run afoul of Hugh, and you'll be flipping through your dictionary until Bastille Day. Let a slip of the tongue offend Esav, and he'll berate you with prose so eloquent that it's almost a crime to delete his insults from your hard-drive.

Then there's Sharp Phil. Just run, kid, just run.

The worst insult to us is the epithet "You are a poor debater."

Well, you dished it pretty well, while you were unchallenged. I did a few throw-away lines and you bellied up to the bar with 'puh-leeeze.' Was I to be bedazzled? Was I to run in fear because I could not even evoke a comeback? You don't have the stones, son.

You are a poor debater.

I am as poor as you my friend. Get off your high horse. Your first post on this subject is nothing but name calling and you seem to very proud of yourself. Teach us, o wise one.

You know, I think this is already happening. It is a shame too, but I think this is the way the world is going to have to be for some time. The world is a different place especially after September, two years ago. It seems that this is the new price to pay for being free.
The way I look at is this - if they want to watch me and keep records, fine, I have nothing to hide. Why live in fear?

I am a big fan of makarov pistols and spend a lot of time reading the mak forums. You wouldn't believe the stories some of those guys have posted about the FBI coming to their homes claiming that the mak parts they have purchased through the mail are illegal and have confiscated them. It makes me sick.

I do get very angry about peoples rights, especially now that I am working in Brasil. I felt that things were pretty bad in the US but believe me, these privacy violation things seem pretty trivial to me now. If you wan't to see problems come here. 170 million people and 70 million earn less than US$3000 per year. Cities where the major is accused of stealing all of the money and there is nothing left to pay the R$300 (US$100 approx.) per month income to the city employees. In 1989 (I think it was)the president took all of the money from everyones bank account when he got into office. He was impeached but only big businesses got their money back.
