For me, it's the Spyderco Para3. I expected the overall proportions to mimic the Para2 as much as possible. Shrinking the blade length without a similar offset to width lost what was a really appealing form factor. A corresponding reduction in the Spydie hole wouldn't have hurt either. Also, sub-optimizing the tip up clip location to accommodate a lanyard hole really sinks it. Even sprint run steels are not going to save it for me. Too bad, as I was really anticipating this model.

My biggest disappointment came when I switched from canned mixed fruit in heavy syrup to canned fruit in light fruit juice. Totally underwhelming. I'm just not the same after that. I'm tearing up just thinking about it...

:D

Oh, wait a minute... you mean my biggest disappointment in knives? That's easy. Definitely the Viper Keeper. Overall good quality, but mine was made with with the closure detent out of position, so the blade won't stay closed if the knife is adjusted properly. I thought I could fix it, but it'll take a lot of time and effort to make it work properly. For the reputation Viper has, I'm surprised this one ever left the factory.

Generally (my timing may be a touch off) I would have to say I was quite disapointed when the Spyderco Para 2 natural G10 / M4 sold out before I got one into my pocket.

I agree with this entirely. I don't know if it'll be the biggest of 2017, but it is certainly a disappointment for me.

I was hoping for a Spyderco PM version of a Mini-Griptilian, but that's not quite what we got.

Also, we still haven't gotten any Rhinos from Spyderco. I'm glad they decided not to let them out if they weren't up to spec, but I'd really like to have one.

The cost of the Japanese produced, S30V, G10 handled Spydercos. Don't get me wrong, Spyderco is very transparent and fair about their pricing and I think they usually offer tremendous bang for your buck, but I was really anticipating the Lil' Temp 2, ATR 2 and Chinook 4 and none seem to be terribly competitive price wise. I may still pinch pennies and drop the cash for a Chinook 4, but I've mostly turned my eye to their Golden and Taichung offerings at this point.

Lots of disappointing stuff so far:

- Prices hiking up
- Nothing really interesting is coming out from Benchmade and Spyderco this year IMO
- Strider shutting down (?) operations - sorry it that offends some, but I do like the knives, no matter how rotten the Burger is
- Real Les George knives becoming incredibly hard and pricey to get
- Chaves being eerily quiet (come on Ramon, stop counting the money and make us some good stuff!)
- My favorite Canadian maker talking about retirement when I have a to do list THAT long
- The craze about “the shorter the better”, well no I like my blades to be at least 3.25"

I was hoping for something closer to the PM2 myself. Making the hole smaller is a great idea. How would you feel if they made the hole super small like on the DK PK? Then it would be a low profile knife.

FYI, I called Spyderco earlier today. They have plans for a blurple S110 Para3.
Should be out later this year.

The silencing of legitimate journalism with ridiculous SLAPP lawsuits.

?on journalism about cutlery and knife companies etc or are you referring to political opinion type news?

Strider isn't shutting down, they merely moved their shop and is resuming production

I have a feeling that he's referencing a lawsuit against a blog over an article about a company and their copying someone else's knife design. The blog retracted, has been punished and honest reporting in the knife world is in great danger. In the US at least. :(

For me it was the Kizer Feist being hollow ground. I was so close to buying it.
