Biggest Knife for EDC?

I can stick my Cold Steel Hold Out 1 (6") in my pocket and forget about it pretty easily, but as soon as you go too much bigger things start to not fit in your pocket anymore.

Big folders usually make the best kitchen knives, since kitchen knives are dull as a stick 99.999% of the time.

For work carry until I retired, a Spyderco Military (4" & 4.25 oz). Too large for normal pocket carry.

Tried a Spyderco Endura (3.75" & 3.4 oz), then settled on a Spyderco Delica (2.88" & 2.3 oz).
When I bought a Spyderco Caly 3.5 with Carbon Fiber handles (3.5" & 3.0 oz) it's now my favorite pants pocket carry.
Anyplace a larger knife on my belt works, I still like the Military.

Para 2 is the largest knife I carry. Anything larger and it is too uncomfortable to carry and gets left behind. Carry what is comfortable.

My largest is a Camillus TL-29 or a Kershaw Leek at work. At home, usually a mid-50s Kamp King or a 1936-56 easy open Imperial jack. Although I just picked up a 1945-55 Imperial Hammer brand "cracked ice" jack that is seriously in the running for my EDC. It mic's out at 0.0705" at the tang, which makes it a hell of a slicer. Really a wonderful little knife.

I used to carry a small two blade case stockman, but have retired it for a Kershaw Tremor. Quite a change in size and weight, but a fun knife to carry and experiment on for my sharpening skills. (Which are evolving thanks to this forum)

Spyderco Resilience . . . It never felt like a big knife

Thats true. Its a big honkin' blade - that is reasonably priced - but carries easily in the pocket and just doesn't seem that big until you thwack it open.

I dont understand the need for something as big as the cold steel voyager or espada, or even as big as the spartan, they are cool looking and really intimidating, but is there anything you are going to need a blade that huge for that cant be done with a 3.5 inch swiss army knife?

Scare off a gang of banditos?

The military and resilience ideal for me. The smallest dedicated knife I have kept is the endura, don't see why smaller knives are so popular. Most people just cut tape/paper maybe.

I like having a blade over 3 inches because its more convenient for bigger, tougher, and unconventional jobs. Think of kitchen knives where usually smallest knife is a paring knife which still most often has a blade over 3 inches. More benefit to having a 4-5 inch blade than having a 2-3 inch blade which is why most historical belt knives are roughly that size as well as kitchen "utility" knives.

I was grabbing the llimbs from a small tree last week as my father buzzed them off. Several lf them had large vines holding on and it was very easy to keep the bunch in my left hand and open a 4" bladed Voyager in my right to cut the vine in a few heavy cuts. Not as easy with a two handed opening slipjoint blade or saw...especially with thick gloves on. Smaller blade would have been more work. Most times longer blade is less cuts for faster and cleaner work.

My current EDC knife is a ZT 0200 and I'll try out the upcoming Spyderco Szabo folder (4.6" blade) when it gets here. Sometimes I carry my Scrapyard 511 IWB, but not very often.

I don't need one :p the XL Voyager is a cool knife though and I wanted to get one before they are disco'd... look at prices for originals now

my preferred EDC is 3.5 to 4 inches in length and that about as big as i can carrie in most places in the state so yeah current blade is my BUCK vantage select large

Never yet anything over 4". 3.5" is my sweet spot for versatility, control, and practical pocket carry.

4 inches is the maximum I'll have in my pocket.

Anything bigger gets to be a fixed blade in most cases and will end up on the belt.

The only exceptions are the AG Russell Texas ranger series.

The biggest knife I would EDC is my ZT 0560. For its size, it's quite light but it does take up space. Anything larger than that, I may have to leave at home...

Pretty much agree with viper89, a ZT 560 or 561 is the upper limit for pocket carry for me. Anything larger would be a fixed blade on the belt.
