Bikers post here.

Back in February I finally got my first street bike. 1978 Suzuki GS750E. A lot has been done since I got it. First pic is the night I got it, second is what it looked like this summer, and last pic was taken a few days ago after I finished putting on the new exhaust

I found an older thread & now hoping/wondering if there are still a few riders on BF's?
Bikes and knives, I am guilty of being a "collector" ...
Just a couple...

I believe, there are a few.
I have a bunch of bikes myself and ride. Last year about 16-18k klicks on a couple of bikes.
Nice bikes you got there - especially the murdered out one at the bottom

I make do with one, but it is sweet. It's a Suzuki Bandit 1250 - comfy 2 up and torque everywhere!

Are you a biker? What do you ride? How often do you ride? Post a little but about yourself here. Pics are welcome, stories are welcome. Pretty much whatever! I'm not a metric hater. I don't talk down on any bikes. As long as you're on two wheels, you're welcome here.

I'll start it off. I ride a Harley Davidson superglide. 2009 model. I just rode 23 miles from my work in downtown Houston to my home in atascocita. In pouring rain. When I say pouring, I mean Noah's ark level rain. There is still a flash flood warning here until 3:00am! There were times when I couldn't see. There were times when I went 20 miles an hour. I rode through some spots that were 1 1/2' deep with water. Damn near went in the air filter housing, but it didn't! I just kept on puttin...

Needless to say, I got soaked to the bone. About halfway home I needed gas, so I got gas. Watched the lightning for a minute. It was awe inspiring. Huuuuge lightning strikes pretty close to me. Blindingly bright. Deafening thunder. I'm telling ya fellas, it took every ounce of resolve to get back on and keep going, but I did.

I had to make it home to my family. I had sent a text to my wife telling her I was leaving work. She replied back to be careful. I told her I would be, but I had to leave NOW.

I kept riding and when I was about 5 miles from home I got stuck at a red light (one of several I had to stop at). A guy pulled up next to me in a car. I gave him the "thumbs down" - to tell him "this really sucks sometimes man"! He returned the thumbs down, then rolled down his window. He asked me how far I was going. I told him about 5 miles. He said he would follow me as long as he could. I told him that would be great! He followed me all the way to the turnoff that goes to my house, staying about 40 feet back, with his hazards on the whole way. When I turned off, he honked and I waved.

When I made it home I peeled all my clothes off, poured a solid cup of water out of each boot, took a quick shower, put on some dry clothes and my wife handed me a beer. My wife and son both told me they knew I would make it, but they were both still worried about me.

And.....you know what? I'll do it all over again. Day after day, week after week, year after year. Why? Bad weather is just a part of riding. Sometimes we ride in chit weather. Sometimes it sucks. But on the other hand, sometimes we ride in great weather. We are the envy of the square sitting next to us in his minivan. We are the thing his wife can't quit staring at. We represent freedom and fun, but also represent the ability to overcome and deal with adverse circumstances. It's a double edged sword. We take the good with the bad. Why? Because we're bikers, and we wouldn't have it any other way!

If you're a biker, sound off here!
New here from Canada. First post.
I ride a VTX1300C Honda built in Ohio,
Over 105,000km on it through rain, sleet, snow, Hail, and yeah I know all about knee high flood waters.
Have travelled through 10 provimces, +12 States (only 38 left to see ;).)
Winds in North Dakota, and Saskatchewan like to keep you on a strong lean, push steering to go straight.
Cheers,
Cat

I'm glad this thread popped back up. It's cool to see all the nice bikes and read the great stories.

Happy travels, and keep the rubber side down and shiny side up.

Forgot to post it here, but my brother went down recently. A damn deer jumped right in his lap when he was on the way to a gas station a mile from his house.

He didn't even take his phone with him, so he woke up in the hospital and had to take a cab home because he couldn't remember anybody's numbers.

Lots of face lacerations and stitches, bruises, road rash, busted ribs, and a broken shoulder blade. Be careful out there.

A few pics:

Hope he heals quick! My first oops the only number I could remember was the bar I used to go to after work. Luckily, a lot of my friends went there too, so that worked. It was way before cell phones, so that may have actually been my best call!

Sorry to hear about your brother, Ant. Glad he was not too terribly injured.

My wife nailed our third deer earlier this year with her Malibu - that was $5k, but the shop did a great job on the car and State Farm was very good (after we got a new AC condenser instead of the used one that caused the compressor to lock up....)

I'll update the thread with my two-wheeled "doings" -

I picked up a 2006 Super Glide - had to do some work on it to get it going but it only had 11k miles on it when I bought is a year and a half ago -

Then I bought a new 2015 Kawasaki Concours 1400 - could not pass up the deal on a brand new bike.

I have already done a trip on the Concours - it's pretty awesome for sport touring with a lean toward touring. I put handlebar risers, front crash bars (to mount highway pegs), a CB radio, a trunk. It already had heated grips from the factory. I am liking the adjustable windscreen and also the 140 RWHP. I had a flash done and put on an Akropovich slip on. Pretty smooth riding beast.

I sold my Aermacchi M50, and bought the wife her own Honda 230 CR - she loves it!

Buying her a dirt bike prompted me to get my KTM 300 MX/C running - it had been sitting for 6 or more years. I changed the fluids, put in fresh gas, and it started on the 3rd kick. No kidding. (Stored in heated garage all winter each winter, but still. Love those KTMs.)

Glad to see the thread revived.

Ouch! Glad to see your brother still on this side of the dirt, and vertical. Rides can be replaced, people not so much. Praying for a complete and speedy recovery for him.
Cheers,
Cat

sweet classic right there. A keeper.

Hope your brother gets better soon. They say most accidents happen within a mile from your home... it sure did for me. Slid around 100ft from a tank slapper that threw me over the handlebars. I was lucky that I reluctantly decided to wear a friend's helmet (didn't own one myself) and put a jacket on over my T-shirt. Even my jeans were torn up like tissue paper.

I started on a friend's Kawasaki (RIP) that looked like the one in Purple Rain. I rode an old 600cc Hurricane (father of the CBR) for everyday transportation (except in the heart of winter... MN) and from MN to IL twice a year for years. Stupidest thing I ever did was ride that sucker with bald tires in a MN blizzard on the highway... a young blonde was involved with that decision... Other stupid things were slightly less potentially hazardous... maybe.

I currently ride a '99 XL that I bought new and had modified over the years. It was fun as heck to ride in WI, but now in IL a lot of the fun is lost to watching out for stupid cagers, tons of debris on the suburban roads, and often needing to haul things in my car. After Photobucket changed policies I don't have my bikes pics online.
