I'm glad he's dead, I'm glad we killed him ourselves, and I'm glad Obama did it the right way.

I'm not an Obama fan, but I like how he handled this.

just think 70 virgins: ankle braclets, pre engagment rings , Vermont teddy bears, prom dresses, romantic comedeys, tickets to great adventure and cases of Zima.$$$$.An eternity of agrivation and fustration...Priceless.

Jaxx and Old Physics, thanks for your comments. Very well put!

I felt that this quote was more than appropriate at this moment:

"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness can not drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate can not drive out hate; only love can do that"
~~~Martin Luther King, Jr.
Let's lighten up and check out the jokes ... :D
"Who said you can't take out the Bin on a Sunday ?"
"Wanted - Seal Team Helicopter Mechanic" - no prior experience of Iranian Rescue Missions or working in Afghanistan required ... may need to work over the weekend ...
Advert - Pakistan Phone Company - " Get a landline - you know it makes sense! "
'I give you respect as a living entity' is not the same as 'I respect your actions' or 'I will not try to kill you for the things you have done or are currently doing'. Giving him a proper burial at sea without anything remotely defiling was the best thing to do for several reasons.
-There isn't a direct cause for hatred or retaliation based on the method of his burial or the rituals performed during it
-There isn't a grave site to a) visit b) build a shine upon c) declare holy ground d) fight over
-The site of burial is completely vague and even if found, would not offer the viewer any sense of place or epiphany or anything
-Every part of him will be used, with gratefulness on the part of the organisms who use it.
The greatest disservice to a great man's lineage (for those who saw him as 'great') is to give him a burial no one see's and a grave no one can ever visit, to give them nothing to work with but simple unadorned finality. To let his name fall from the public eye and his cause go unfinished in perpetuity is the worst thing that could have happened to him in life; the greatest revenge you can have upon your enemies is living a long happy and healthy life. The quote from Martin Luther King Jr. isn't just moral rhetoric, it has sound reasoning. To defile his body would only give him and his cause fuel. To treat it with respect and to give him a burial befitting his chosen religion, and then let his body and his life disappear forever is to say 'It happened, and now it is dead and gone. Let it remain so."
Many true words. However, for purely educational purposes I would like to highlight that burial at sea is only in line with Islamic teachings if s.o. dies at sea. As he died ashore, the burial was not "befitting his chosen religion".
We all learn from each other, day for day. I took so much from you, take this one from me :)
Have you heard about the new Bin Laden cocktail?
Two shots and a splash of water.
I tried to find a Qur'an based explanation on the burial rites expressed on other websites, in particular:
"624. If it is feared that an enemy may dig up the grave and exhume the dead body and amputate its ears or nose or other limbs, it should be lowered into sea, if possible, as stated in the foregoing rule."
But couldn't find any passage references. I have no education in Islam, so I don't know where the above '624' comes from. I would love to hear if the above is true based on Quran passages, or if it is true/false within the culture of Islam.
Not having an education in the Quran, I can only say that I assume that the Navy provided for him the equivalent service that they would have provided for a Naval recruit who requested an Islamic burial, sans the U.S. Armed Forces member portion of the service. Even though that may irk a lot of people, I hold that it was for the best, treating the bodies of your enemies with the same respect you treat your loved ones cuts the hatred in half, it keeps it aimed at living actions and refuses to add fuel to it.
I'm very glad Bin Laden is dead. I'm even more glad that he was double tapped in the head by a Seal, rather than dying indiscriminately in a bomb blast. More personal that way. Getting rid of his body at sea leaves nothing for the fenatics to lament. He's simply a footnote on some obscure history page now.
Good riddance to bad rubbish.
Thanks! This helped a lot. The quotation you found is based on a set of fatwas (rulings) that have been issued by Ayatullah al Uzama Zyed Ali al-Husaini Seestani. He is a Shi'a scholar who's teachings are not by default applicable to Sunni Muslims. It would be like applying regulations of the Assyrian church to members of the British new church movement (extreme comparison). The number 624 is just a consecutive number to categorize his rulings.
You will not find precise information on this topic in the Qur'an, as this book is more like the constitution of Islam and therefore very high level. The precise rules and regulations can only be found in the Sunna - a collection of quotations and descriptions on how the Sahaba (Mohamed and his early followers) led their life and interpreted the Qur'an. At this juncture it is important to know that anything not explicitly forbidden is allowed. The exception are acts of worship, where everything is forbidden unless explicitly allowed. As burials fall under the category "acts of worship", there should be a precise reference in the Sunna (or Qur'an) to make burials at sea compliant with (Sunni-) Islamic regulations. There is no such reference that covers the sea burial in the case of OBL.
If I had been Obamas advisor I would have told him to bury OBL anonymously somewhere in the remote Pakistani wilderness. However, I understand the rational behind the sea burial and don't expect any major repercussions from the Muslim community because of the compliance or non-compliance of burial rites. I strongly believe that OBL caused more suffering to the Muslim community than to the so called "West". We are all happy he is gone and grateful to the soldiers who risked their lives to bring justice.
I'm not a sit around and hold eachother's hands type of guy- This world can be dangerous. I love this country and I love guns and knives and weapons of every sort. I'm also the type of guy that if you pick a fight with me, your going to get exactly that, a FIGHT. But MAN, wouldn't WORLD PEACE be such a relief right about now? No terror threats and no collateral damage. We should be fighting aliens and zombies instead of eachother. (yes we would still need all of our guns and knives and tanks and jets and nuclear bombs because when aliens and zombies fight, they bring it! Just wait, you'll see)
Well it certainly seems too good to be true. Gotta wonder if bin Laden is living out his golden years in Saudi Arabia while we get the exclusive rights to claim the kill and all that goes with it. A sample of his DNA would be all it would take to make a deal like that fly. The Saudis would also retain a trump card to insure they get what they want in a rapidly changing middle east. Make a good movie wouldn't it ? Let's hope the truth isn't stranger than fiction. ;)
Once they have gone through the intel they gathered ... let's hope we can rename that one again. and again and again and again ....:thumbup:
