Hey Is1 and Cody1,
Call me @ 1-800 282-0130. My extention is 208. If you guys send the knives in, we'll replace them.
Best Regards,
If only the rest of America's manufactures were as honorable and ethical We would still be the number one manufacture of quality goods in the world

also think this is what separates Ethan from a lot of others in the knife business.
I think it is more of the above that separates Ka-Bar and Ethan from the chafe

I love to work 'em hard at home to find out what they WILL do.....
Plus 1 on testing before you depend on it in the field. That and the above is what has made me such a huge Becker knife fan. I have had two 40ftX15ftX6ft high stacks of limbs that my Beckers have trimmed off of dead fall. Plus I've hacked my way through everything else from a car battery cable to string with my Beckers. I now own at least one of each Ka-Bar Becker currently made. But that first BK2 remains my favorite. My trusty razor sharp hand ax.

Well I hate to say this but I'm having issues with the new one as well. I really don't abuse my knifes, I never chop or baton huge peices of wood. I hardly ever chop trees more than 3-5" in diam (6' is all that's legal to burn in the State forest here) ,but my bk-9's edge has experienced signifigant bending and bowing in more than one place although it has not chipped. It's almost like the heat treat on the old one was too hard and the heat treat on this one is too soft. Bad days at the factory?

you want it both ways!!! :)

with the khukris, when we get a little bend, we fix it. same for the russians... every notice the russian flag? hammer and sickle. ever WONDER what the happer is for? well, *I* don't know for sure, but i'm told it's for fixing any edge issues in the sickle, as well as for effectively sharpening it.

one can, while wearing safety gear of course, on a small anvil, or rail track, or even decently secured piece of hardwood... and with a small hammer, fix those edge warps and curves, potentially work hardening at the same time. taking small precise hits. perhaps not for the faint of heart? it works though. have done this on many hard use edged items.

me? i'd rather have them bend a touch, than fail with a chip.

also, still chopping Hemlock and evergreen/fir trees? see post #9 in this very thread and others talking to that practice. that's very hard on any edged tool, axe or knife. having seen what happens to some knives chopping on cold hard "christmas trees", i stopped using a knife/machete for that. "disposable" loppers or a cheap axe? oh yeah.

i'm sure ToooOOOoooj will fix you up again - so send him Email or Call him for fastest attention.

Ethan will be back in the near future as well after many of his trips are concluded.

in the meantime, PICTURES PICTURES PICTURES... talk to Toooj, try the hammer (if you are up to it), and good luck.

That is a real bummer. it can happen. Here is a pic of my 1085 cutlass machete that blew a chip out. It was about .5" accross. I was harvesting fatwood and hit a very hard knot at an angle. You could hear the chip fly out like a bullet richoceting.
I ground the chip out and convexed it. No problems since.
Ka-bar will replace it. I have no doubt!!!

I would like to know how their service is . I own the Becker/Kabar BK-2. Man that is a big chip. Sure there were no bullets in that tree. I have cut into trees and have seen this. Once I was plane-ing a piece of red oak from rough milled and found a bullet in the board thankfully before I ran it through the planer.

I was making stair parts in a factory when I was living in Oshawa Ontario Canada for six to cold years. I will watch this thread for sure.

read the thread from the beginning, especially noting posts from Toooj (he's KaBar's voice of service here). the service? it's pretty damn good. :)

as for chips, excellent explanation on how that can happen in a regular old tree without outside influences. trees can be rock hard, and certain conditions can break axes, and knives of nearly any caliber. just bad luck and the right tree.

Bladelite: I've thought about hammering it or putting it in a vise, but I didn't wish to void my warrenty. I'm just an everyday handy man and not a blade smith.

I chop many types of wood, hard woods, soft woods, everything from Maple to Hickery, spruce (soft as can be) to yes, the ocassional hemlock. I've also been very careful to avoid hemlock knots since the last issue. I've been more careful with the knife in general not wanting to cause an issue.

Ya I am pretty scatterbrained. I saw the first two or three post and I just came here and made a reply. Now I know I am good hands. I have the BK-2 and love it. Like some one said a hand hatchet. But I just found an old Norlund hatchet head looks like a tomahawk. I bought a new handle but the opening is so small I will have a friend help me put it on. He is an artist with wood and he has a wood shop so that helps.

Alright, if I'm screwing something up then let me know. I won't be ticked if you decide it's not under warrenty.

Also if it is under warrenty...could I make a special request? Should I shoot you a call or just make a note when I send the knife?

Is1,
Just send a note with the knife.
We'll try our best to honor it.

he got a free replacement - and has now banged it up, too.
that's why they want to inspect this one to see if there is a problem with their process.

Is there some kind of missunderstanding here. Now you want to inspect the blade and see what you can do. As in how to make quality control a little better. But you are still sending this person his new knife right?

None of my business I suppose, I just hope ISI is getting his knife as promised.

You said you would twice. Please clarify.

I see where he got his (new knife)>> then another and it is being replaced also. I did not catch this the first time around so forgive my comment. I do not think I was being rude but if I came across that way, again forgive please.

was there ever an issue with this model when it was made by camillus (i think that's who made them before right)???
just wondering if it's the design or the manufacturing...
