BK scale project --- Passaround

In conclusion, I like them. I like them more than I though I would. And I hate to see them go. I hope I will have the opportunity to get a set, because they are really a thing of beauty. They chop well with the 3 finger grip(because of the change in balance towards the butt). The sides are grippy, but not too coarse. While the edges are smooth and became a little slippery(it was really hot and humid today), but I believe a lanyard would have been a good remedy.
Thanks for the chance to use them, and they will be on the way to DerekH tommorow.

Thanks slapper for a well review, I'm glad you like it. Thanks for the BK2 pics with the scales, I was curious to see how they fit on the 1/4" thick knife. About the weight and the balance point for the difference models, I was thinking if I had all the knives I probably will mill out the back of the scales so that they will have a perfect balance point for each model. Just wanted to add, there was a special low profile lock nuts that will fit perfectly with the scales. I just didn't have them at the time I sent them out. Thanks for the inputs, my friend. I'm looking forward to see more reviews from all. Good day folks!

Alright, got these bad boys in yesterday. Will get pics up at some point soon, prolly this evening since the missus will be gone. I can give the sum total of my thoughts on them now though.

Bad news first, I am not fond of them. The ergonomics do not work for me at all. Probably the same reason I do not like ESEE knives despite them being great knives is that the ergo's just don't work for me. I tried in pretty much every grip, and none of it felt comfortable in the hand. As with anything what works for one person will not necessarily work for another, and vice versa. Slapper seemed to enjoy them, and that is great, but for me, they would be very uncomfortable during use. Not that you would have a problem using them, they are rock solid. And that brings me to the good news. The fit and finish and everything about the construction on these is top notch. I have no idea what kind of machine ole Sh@rp is using, but it goes so far as to clearly define the area between the toes of the wolf, down to a point smaller than a millimeter. Very, very, very nicely made. If everything in the world was made this well, we would have a lot less problems. Sh@rp, you sir have done some amazing work here. The checkerboard pattern is crisp, and you can see how the wolf was done over the top of that, and it adds some incredible depth to the image. The back and sides match up flawlessly, and it sits on the BK2 perfectly. It is actually a better fit to my knife than the default grivory that came with it. Whatever measurements you used to get the scale shape down, you succeeded nicely.

If looks were all that mattered, then these things would be an 11 out of 10, but for me comfort is important, especially when I have these on my go to knife, and I just couldn't get my hands to a point to where they were comfortable. This will not be the case for everyone, and may just be an issue with me alone. The manufacturing was flawless however, and I have no doubt that these things would hold up for centuries under the toughest of use. Sh@rp did an amazing job on the machining.

Anyways, like I said, pics later.

Hey 1066vik, please add my name to the list since you don't have 10 yet.
I'm not a huge fan of metal scales, but I'd sure like to try 'em anyway.

Wow, thanks Derek for good points you made on your impression. Very constructive criticism and thanks for the kind words. I'm glad to hear both of the bad's and goods. Hopefully at some point in future I will run a full contour scales just like the stock with all my artwork on a 3D surface regardless the cost and time involve and hope that it will full fill both the comfort and the artistic level. Until then, I'm sincerely thanks for all the feedback, I'm nobody without them. Looking forward for your pictures. Thanks, my friend!

Didn't get a chance last night, the missus made off with the camera. She does that. I will say that the ergo's are really a shot in the dark. What works for one may not work for another. Heck, that isn't even a complaint about them so much as an observation. Kudos to you for whipping these up though, you put some time in and they came out perfect as far as fit and finish.

Pics up tomorrow, I wanted to get Sheila to a point to where they would work on her. :D Then I will get them sent out on Monday.

Any room left on the list ? I'm a handle junkie, those puppies are sweet.

Like the ones you did for Moose for his 14.

Got any Cobra art ... ? :D

Got this one, but I think the scales are too small for it.

Alright, here are some pics. I may not like the ergonomics of 'em, but they sure do look purty. On Sheila they really make her patina pop. The new forum software likes to resize stuff, so if you want to see them at full size (1000px x 750px) right click and view image.

So, my review was already up, but after fiddling with them a bit today, I also noticed that the holes where the nuts go is a wee bit exact. Stock nuts, or the ones Sh@rp provided will fit, but bigger nylon locking nuts will not. Not really a criticism so much as an observation there.

They look stunning on a knife though, and with the black screws on the black blade of the BK2, looks positively gorgeous. You get some curves to ones of these, and I will find myself getting a pair for sure. All in all, great work Sh@rp!

Very nice pics, Derek. With your permission my friend, I would like to use some of your pics. About the lock nuts, I found out the full standard size has too much tolerance among them and they would not seat flush below the scale's surface at all. So, I searched for the low profile that will seat below the scale's surface and has not too much variance in tolerance. Also, to be safe I enlarged the hex size .005" bigger. That would take care it. These were the 2nd prototype sets after all. I know 1066vik would be a proud owner. Thanks for your review Derek. I'd love to hear all the inputs. Keep 'em coming gentlemen. I really appreciated this forum. Thanks, every one.
