BK10 Limited Edition Mods

Just a couple of mods makes it a damn fine bushcrafter for me.

I lowered the ramp one notch. I don't really mind the ramp, but wanted to be able to put my thumb on top of it for push cuts and control cuts. It feels like jimping now. Softened the "rhino horn" just a little for looks, didn't want to get wild here because it drills so well. Squared up the spine (I do it to all of 'em) and finally, yes......I choiled. I couldn't help it. I like to get close to my work.

Oh yeah, I shortened up the sheath by folding the top down and zip tying it for a higher ride.

Nice work trade, she looks great.

That looks nice tw. Would like to see a better photo from the side though. Hard to see where you ground the top of the thumb ramp down, with the grass in the background.

Ok so im finished modding it now. So lets recap, I ground the clip point, added firesteel notch, squared and did file work on the spine, ground choil, convexed it, polished the blade to bright satin, reshaped the guard, took off finish and blued it, and now added custom wood scales. It was my first try at wood scales and the bocote was an awesome pattern. the countersunk holes arent the best (off center since my stupid ass drilled the bolt hole first instead of the other way around) and i wasnt even going to attempt to try and chisel out the hex shape hole for the nuts so i just made em a little bigger so that i can get in there and hold the nut with a needle nose. next ill do wood for the bk2 and i think ill picn and epoxy them instead. I Shaped em with a belt sander, rasp, and dremel. Hand sanded to 250 grit. then coated with gloss poly. This was a fun project and she now my favorite hunting/hiking buddy. TIME TO GET HER DIRTY!

Your mods are awesome. I'm new to the forum and to modifying knives, so please forgive me if you've already answered this question somewhere else. How did you get the patina on the middle part of the knife but not below it and not on the swedge (i think that's what it's called) above it? Thanks for your time, and again, I apologize for my newness to all of this. Hopefully I won't be apologizing for it much longer as I get the hang of things.

Regards,

Zach from NC

They came from the factory like that. Welcome to the forums!

I like the necrothread resurrection. I missed this thread the first time around.

Now I really want to get one of the new 10's so I can grind in a choil, round the swedge, strip and Clich, then add either some TKC G-10 scales or some Tommythewho wooden scales. I won't mess up my LE10 with any mods, but I think one of the new 10's modded in this fashion would make a dandy medium-large bushcraft belt knife.

Glad this one was bumped too. Looks great. Ka-bar/Becker should do some satin and micarta handles on special editions on a bunch of their stuff. I'd love a BK9 with the same treatment out of the box, for example.
