BK2 Question

DBob,
I'm not sure, but I'm pointing to Bladite as the diabolical head of the syndicate. Ethan is just a figure head.
Toooj

and that's quite a figure he has too...

see, it all started innocently enough when i found a cache of inexpensive Beckers nobody knew about, and bought them, and used them, and then i found MORE, and at very good prices... my first two BK-02s cost me, $30 each NIB at a store closing... then i was hooked. now, i've paid a BIT more for certain hard to find models, because that's the game, and insanely less for others. so it goes. still don't have the ENTIRE historical set, but maybe someday... a couple are VERY hard to find ;)

Hello all,

I was hoping someone may have some inside information that they can share. I am trying to purchase the current, soon to be "old", version of the BK2. Nobody seems to have them in stock. All of the vendors I have spoken to have said that the BK2 is on backorder until early March. My question is, when these knives ship from the factory, will they be the old version or the new version? I read another thread that mentioned the new version wouldn't be available until about April. However, in the photos from Ethan's visit to the factory, it appears that the new version has been in production since at least early January. I would think that if they had any of the old version that had been produced prior to that, they would have shipped by now. Does anyone have any information?

Thanks.

Could you explain this new/old BK2 Is it the camilius and kabar? or something else. I would like to know because I was thinking about getting one.

Kabar versions of the BK-02, the differences between the first generation, which is more like the Camillus model, and the new second generation, which has new features.

see the FAQ http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=710297 for some pictures and thread links (Oleans thread in particular)

So if I read correctly the only real differences between the 1st and 2nd gen are that the handles are skeletionized and theres a extended pomel (kinda like the BK7?) It this correct? Did I miss anything?

No, I think you got it all. Either way, you can't go wrong with a BK-2. I have the older one, but I'll be getting the new one, too, when it comes out... as many of us will.

And quite a dashing figure it is, too. Not, I must modestly state, unlike my own chick-magnet figure.:D

Bladite, if there are any that you don't own, I probably don't even know about them. You have the best collection of any that I know about.

well, there's the recent prototypes and new models, of course...

and there are prototypes past, esp some possibly only on paper...

and random one offs... and things like that...

Guyon certainly had a massive collection going, and was aggressively buying EVERY DAMN THING he could find, and find them he did, pretty amazing really. that started me up into my own frenzy of finding, and i think sharing some data, between the two of us, found quite a few hidden treasures... then Camillus fell apart, and there was more scrambling to be had.

and now it's a new generation of goodness. i don't *THINK* i have a new KaBar BK-07 yet, but do have all the other production Becker KaBars at this point.

I will probaly just get the first generation because I dont care about having a extending end because its on the Becker Bk7 and I never use it. And I also dont care about weight; actually I would like it to stay as heavy as it already is.

There's certainly nothing wrong with the current BK-2 — it's my favorite knife — but skeletonizing the handle on the new one isn't just about saving weight; it's about changing the balance, too. The new one has less of its weight in the handle, and more in the blade, which makes for a better chopper.
