Mr. Becker, I for one, would like to take you up on the offer you made to Tacoma Kid. Just yesterday, I received a BK-2 "new version" from Tom at Chestnut Ridge. Mind you, I already have an "old version" BK-2 (as well as a BK-9) that I purchased in January. Yet, I want another to keep virgin (yes, yes it will be a 'safe queen') and as I have alluded to in an earlier post, I simply want it to marvel at. Unfortunately, I placed an order specifically stating that I wanted the "old version". Tom and I had an earlier conversation and he stated that he had procured some additional "old versions" and would ship one to me. He stated that he had secured these from an ancillary source and he did so to satisfy existing customers. Unbeknownst to Tom, the knife that shipped was indeed the newer version. When I contacted him today, he was baffled about the newer versions, as he did not have any. He contacted Ka-Bar and went around the block with them. Apparently he was told by an administrative sort that there was no such thing as a "1st gen or 2nd gen" and that the knives are simply BK-2s. Ka-Bar has obviously, either willfully or inadvertently, failed to acknowledge the difference between the two. Suffice it to say, this subtly raised an eyebrow with me. Upon reviewing the knife, there is a definite distinction between the knives. I wanted and still want the "old version". Tom (@
www.ridgeknifeshop.com), being the consummate businessman he is, readily offered to accept the knife back and eat the shipping costs. Mr. Becker, I would like to avoid returning the knife if possible, as it also is impressive. But I do really want the 1st gen version. Tom was apologetic, but it really was not his fault and wants customers to be satisfied. ( On a side note, the knife was not snapped shut and could have possibly fallen out of the box. REALLY DANGEROUS. Also, the scales were not straight and I thought it was defective. But a touch with hex wrench and they straightened out. This is worth stating because everyone that purchases a knife such as these is not necessarily familiar with tweaking them; and presumably could feel the knife is defective and return it dissatisfied. And we all know how flame threads can get out of hand. I would like to suggest that quality control take a bit more time when attaching the scales to ensure that they fit flush. Furthermore, there was no warranty information and accompanying literature, just the unsnapped knife and the box.) But back to matter at hand. Mr. Becker, I truly would like to get the older version and if possible, would you send one to Tom and I will buy it from him or directly from you, whichever is conveniently expedient. Thanks.
