BK2 Question

There's certainly nothing wrong with the current BK-2 — it's my favorite knife — but skeletonizing the handle on the new one isn't just about saving weight; it's about changing the balance, too. The new one has less of its weight in the handle, and more in the blade, which makes for a better chopper.

oh ok ya i like that theres more weight in the blade vs handle if it makes it a better chopper, also do you know when they will switch over from gen 1 to gen 2 at the different dealers? last how will you know if your getting a gen 1 or a gen 2?

Yes. it should help the balance quite a bit.

Sorry, I don't really know the answers to your questions right now. Perhaps Bladite, Ethan, or Toooj might be able to answer... I'd just be guessing.

I would like to know as well I ordered mine today it's not gonna come till march 10th ( I found a website that said they had it in stock and it turned out they need to update there site!)

Hey Pittrules,

Ka-Bar is currently backordered on the BK-2s so most of our vendors are probably out. The next batch will be the new rev. There may be a few sellers who have old stock so you might have to ask. Our present ETA for the new BK2s is 2-3 weeks to our warehouse. As Rifon has noted, the new rev will have the extended pommel at the butt end of the handle (same as the BK3, 7, & 9) while the "old" version does not. The balance is very close to the old rev so most will not notice a difference in the balance and weight.
Hope this helps.

Sigh. I feel so alone and deprived.
Maybe demented. I'm never sure on Fridays.
DBob,

If it makes you feel better, I talked to Ethan and he REAAALLLY likes your Becker logos.
Being in the inner sanctum of the Beckerhead syndicate has it's draw backs. Remember what Michael Corleone said in the Godfather; "Every time I think I'm out; Bam! They pull me back in."

Thanks, Toooj.

I emailed him last week hoping to get his thoughts/feedback before I went any further, but I haven't heard anything back from him yet. I know he's busy, but I hope he'll get around to it soon.

Michael Corleone... Michael Corleone... hmmm? Wasn't he the guy from Cincinnati who had the Becker collection almost as large as Bladite's? The one who wanted a BK-.45? I'm sure he was a Becker Backer to the bone.

Thanks and yes this helped.

I just checked and Tom at chestnut ridge still has a couple of the old ka-bar versions. Won't last long. Love mine, but will have to get a new one also. :D

I am getting the 2nd gen campanion now is this a bad thing cause i'm gettig the feeling like nobody really wants the new one or am I just mistaken, I have faith that it's only a better product now with more possibilities

Hey John.....

The only reasons the "old style" Campanions did not have the extended pommel is because I didn't think of it 20 years ago and the only reason there were no cut outs under the scales is that BK-2s were stamped out rather than laser cut (and I hadn't thought of that either), so be of good cheer your "new" Campanion is a better knife....It costs a bit more to make but it is truly an improvement.....

All Best....

thank you Mr. Becker! I trusted it would be a better knife I understand that with better technology comes greater possibilities

and I also understand that an artist is never truly finished with there work and will sometimes go back and redo a painting 10 times till they are happy with the finshed product

Bladite

Seriously man, I am bugg'n out waiting here I saw someone put a bike innertube on the handle for grip I so i got one I ordered some olive drab 550 cord for a lanyard I am like a kid waiting for Christmas

Not owning an old BK2 myself I have nothing to compare the new one to but I do love the new knife just fine. I for one appreciate the lighter weight. If this knife were any heavier I would not feel comfortable carrying it into the woods for extended trips. It has more than enough heft for a knife this size. I'm primarily a backpacker/bushcraft guy so if I need any major chopping done I break out the hatchet, not a bigger knife. If I truly need more "heft" but didn't want to carry a hatchet I'd buy a BK9..

Thank You Ethan for the changes :D
