BK24 D'EsKabar, A First Look

I believe they got to fondle one at the gathering. I have never had anything in D2 so depending on the price I am definitely interested in one once they are out.

I have never owned a d2 knife either. i like the look of the bk24 but im not sure if it would be better for me or not. i have read 1095 is much easier to sharpen, and is tougher. D2 has more wear resistance and will hold its edge longer. but for my tasks i think stronger and easier to sharpen might be better. i read with d2 you almost have to use diamond sharpeners. in real world applications i dont think this is a benefit. im on the fence.

If i said something wrong please correct it, if you know of other benefits over 1095 please list them.

as far as I know you are correct. D2's advantages ( as I understand them) are better wear resistance and better rust resistance. I really like all of my 1095 but I did find myself wishing my 14 held the edge a little longer when dressing my deer this year. Mostly I want to try out the metal on a platform that I know I already hold in high regard. It's my understanding that lots of respected knife makers like D2 so I am curious as to what it's like. I am also under then impression that if you keep maintaining the edge it won't be so laborious to sharpen. I tend to strop and touch up my knifes almost obsessively ( I find it therapeutic haha) so I figure if stay on top of keeping a good edge it wouldn't be so bad. but then again who knows, I've never had and D2.

Damn that got long winded. basically I already have the 1095 and like it so want to see how I like the D2 :)

Yea thats where i stand as well, its more of looks and wanting it because its different for me.

And stropping is very therapeutic (whew glad i didnt have to try and spell that) its a great way to unwind and relax. i do it every night and sometimes i think im doing it too often but i just really enjoy it.

Don't do it too much you'll go blind or grow hair on your palms or something :D haha jk

I have a (character questions aside) HEST 2.0 folder in D2, and it really does hold an edge well. I'm sold on its value for shorter utility/EDC blades. I'm looking forward to this release!

I'll be getting one. I love d2. The bone collector I have is in D2 and does great at skinning hogs.

so far the tsa hasn't stolen mine, but they'll have a second chance :(

I got the chance to play with Moose's Bk-24 at the Gathering this weekend. The finish and feel are great, the laser etch nice, and the D2 seems to cut "just a little bit different" to me. It was my first real experience with any D2 blade, and I like it. Like a classier version of a proven design. The 14 was my first Becker, and I hope the D2 might open up one of my favorite designs to a whole new audience.

The finish is a nice change from the rest of the line. Looking forward to seeing these when they hit the streets.

I got to handle the BK-24 a bit at the gathering. It does have a good looking finish.

It sat out on the picnic table all night, in the rain. It developed a few traces of slight rust on the spine.

In comparison, my BK-14, after being used to cut some wet bank line in the rain as I was breaking camp, had some nice rust spots when I took it out 4 hours down the road.

My BK14 gets ignored like a red headed step child now that I have an Izula II. The handle length makes all the difference in the world in my opinion, even though it's only a wee bit longer. I'm sure I'm gonna get berated for saying this, but I really wish they had opted to go with the handle length of the II vs the original Izula for the BK 24. I'd slap my dog for that knife. Not really. He's a good dog.

The D2 blades I have came shaving sharp from the factory. They hold an edge way better than anything else I own. I have one I bought over a year ago and haven't put a stone to it yet... It still shaves.

Another look...

I really like that 2nd picture! what kind of camera do you have?

Thanks, that might be my best pic. My camera is a Fujifilm Z33 point n shoot. If I knew what I did to make it turn out so nice I would do it all the time.
