BK6 Patrol Machete Passaround Signup and Review Thread

Damn, I missed that. My bad as well.

Love the review, good info and good pics.

Do you think it was the thickness that made is less of a chopper, or edge geometry?

It gets thick at the blade, I wonder if it would benefit from a convexing.

Feel free to baton it, I will and do, so, no worries. Treat it how every you like, just don't put it in a vice and see how far it bends, or try a BK6 vs. Bandsaw competition or anything :D

Glad to see it back in action too. What was your pay it you got with the BK6?

Sorry to be getting back so late... life... ugh... new job, wife wants her flower business going. Lots happening and NO time for anything!!! lol

Anyways... yes I believe the edge geometry is the deciding factor. I think if the grind started sooner, leaving you with a thinner leading edge, it would bite into the wood better.

AND I TOTALLY FORGOT. I'm sorry JV3!

He sent me a 3/8" firesteel in a spent shell casing, 4 sticks of fatwood and a bright orange hankerchief. I love me some fire! Thanks, man! :)

Hey Flexx,
Glad you got the blade! I had contacted kg4ghn to send it to him, but he said he didn't have the time to do a proper review and to skip him, so I sent it off to you. :)

this question wasn't directed at me but in my opinion it's mostly the recurve - the belly wasn't big enough so it was easy to miss the sweet spot. i'd like to re-test it with either a full blown khukri belly or go with a straight edge like this machete (that spine hump still maintains that forward heavy balance for chopping ability without the sharpening negative) someday maybe.

if it was my bk-6 i would've reprofiled it close, if not a true scandi grind. in my experience/environment, scandi's delicateness is way overblown. i've batoned my 2 scandi knives through oak/various iron wood and have yet to get any chips/rolls/etc. i don't think scandi should be limited to just ~4" knives...with a good heat treat, thin edge should be fine with choppers too but what the heck do i know :o

I can agree with that Jay.

I tend to hate recurves with a passion, but I liked the forward sweep with the BK6, for some reason. I am thinking it would benefit from a good convexing, with emphasis put on knocking the shoulders back some. We'll see what happens.

Here is a pic of the BK6 while hiking today.
I will get some more pics soon (My Camera Died) and my thoughts on this excellent blade.....

that poor maimed tree!

what with you guys sticking knives into national monuments, park signs, and random shrubbery?

if you cut it, does it not bleed? esp maple syrup.

if you kill it, you have to eat it ;)

Since Flexxx has the BK6, that means I'm next! :D There are tons of downed trees up the canyon that will make great testing fodder.

So Here are some more pics of the BK6
I love this blade, it is a sweet ass chopper, thanks moose for the chance to use it.
The only thing I would change is the handles, this blade deserves Micarta

Moose, I still have the BK6. My Popeye Elbow flared up after I tested the BK6 so I forgot to send it to the next person. If that person will email me their mailing address i'll get it off in the next few days.

threatx and might1 were next, but I have no problem jumping out of turn if they don't step up and be counted.

I say go for it.
