Any thoughts guys? I know that this is the Becker Forum, but Im sure some of you guys have both. Soon I will get one of the these, and of course nobody around here has one, so I cant tell. Any help would be great, thanks!

you will probably get a lot of this answer buti have the 9 and couldnt be happier...they both do everything the other can* and one is half the price and includes the sheath and one hell of a following....hmmmm.....

*edit to say the junglas is an inch longer so technically they can do everything each other can do except if your ten inches from whatever your cutting/chopping instead of 9.

don't have a BK9, but have done SXS comparison between my Junglas and Becker Patrol Machete.
Love the Junglas, BK6 is on its way to a new home.
In its defense, the BK6 was a great blade, but the scales were not comfortable for extended chopping due to the fact that I have extremely wide hands.

I have both. It's very close, but I do prefer the BK-9 as a pure chopper. Just fits my hand better.
Note my signature, Beckerhead #, the length of my... ahem knife, etc.

I have both but I prefer junglas. Just a better "feel" to it. Love the BK9 though and they are both great choppers IMO.

i like the junglas better. the same thickness (or very close since i only compared them by eye spine up against spine) but the junglas' longer blade and handle means you can grip it even further down making it even more blade heavy. simple physics - junglas is a better chopper.

look at my sig for the patrol machete review. in short, junglas also has better handle ergonomics - that downward sloping handle eliminates the hot spot at the base of my palm while chopping. the sheath is also hands down the best i've seen, stock or custom.

side note: if you decide to get the bk-9, it fits perfectly fine in the junglas' sheath.

I heard people say that the 9 handles more like a large knife, while the Junglas handles like a small machete. Since I've never owned a Junglas (pronounced Hoonglas btw - it's a spanish word), that's all I can say.

Get a junglas. I have one and I firmly believe there is not a better production chopper out there for the money. The handle is amazingly comfortable for extended chopping and the sheath is simply perfect. As good as any custom maker.

Do you need Micarta and Kydex ?

If you do then to make them apples to apples they come in at almost the same price.

Junglass 155 with Micarta and Kydex sheath 1 1/2 pounds 10 1/2 inches of blade

BK9 75 +40 for Micarta and 45 for a Kydex sheath = 160 1 pound 9 inches of blade

Soooo, need bells and whistles ?

Need lower price ?

Need weight and reach, or something more packable that doesn't give up much for its size?

Both are made by great knife makers and have proven track records and warranties.

The Becker as is, without the upgrades at 75 bucks is damn hard to beat, especially if you don't need micarta grips and a kydex sheath.

As I have heard many forumites say, buy them both and sell the one you don't like, or make it a backup, vehicle knife, or a gift ..lol

Hope this helps.

Becker 9. It's as big as I'd go as a knife. And the value is there. Why pay $150 for a 10" knife when you can get a ESEE machete for less? Or a Condor Machete with Micarta for even less than that? After all, the blades are both made by Imacasa. But Becker...ESEE...Both great knives. It's ultimately what YOU like and can afford.

My son has a Junglas and I have a BK9. Junglas chops better but the BK9 is more comfortable and better (IMO) at other knife like tasks. Junglas costs about 2x what a BK9 does - for me, the BK9 wins hands down.

I have both. I use the 9 more, but the Junglas chops better. I find the 9 easier to use for other tasks than chopping. I can still carve with it, make stuff with it. In the baton arena, they are a tie.

Both are great knives, made by great people. Its funny, folks compare ESEE to BKT all the time. Jeff and Mike are two of the greatest guys I know. I recommend ESEE knives to alot of people. Funny, Jeff recommends BKT to alot of folks too.

Good choice either way, the only thing the Junglas beats the 9 in is chopping, and it ain't by much.

LIke said, there are many pros and cons to each. Consider this, many excellent choppers have a downward curvature to the handle. In my experience, this helps to prevent something similar to tennis elbow. It also helps eliminate the mentioned hot spots in the base of the palm.
The Junglas has a perfect handle, for me. The straight spine/tang of the BK-9 has it's own pros and cons, like said, maybe it's a better knife.

Both can be modified, Becker has their micarta, or make your own. The ESEE can be etched ala BryFry's recent, and awesome, mods.

I really love my Junglas, as far as a production blade. Some, even Jeff Randall, will say it's pretty useless as a machete, and too big for a knife, and I see that perspective. But, I still love swinging it!

I own both. Junglas is AMAZING!! BK9 is GREAT! I would get a Junglas I can use mine for anything. But I normally piggyback my 4 on the Junglas sheath. Until Becker comes out with a knife like the 3/4 the junglas also provides a better system. I do love my beckers tho. But I can honestly say until I get my 10 my Beckers are being let at home more often.

I heard people say that the 9 handles more like a large knife, while the Junglas handles like a small machete.

i was the one who said that :) the junglas feels fast in the hand, it feels lighter than it really is once you start swinging.

Jeff and Mike are two of the greatest guys I own.
