BK9 vs. Junglass?

One pimp to another, how much would you take for the pair?

FOR BARLOW!

I don't know, Play Biscuit, thems two of the top earners in ma stable. Might be a little steep, but I'm sure we can work something out.

I have and enjoy both but I like the junglas better. The thing is a chopping beast. If that's what you're into.

Is the sheath really that nice on the Junglass? Some factory Kydex sheaths seem cheap.

The Junglas sheath is the single best sheath for a production knife out there. I have never seen anything even close. A sheath like that from a custom maker with the molle backing would likely cost around $85-100

I have the BK9 & looked at the Junglas at SMKW last week. I like both just from holding them in my hand. I can't comment on how the ESEE performs but I can say the the BK9 is an Awsome knife ! The sheath on the ESEE is alot better than the factory BK9 sheath....my BK9 is in the hands of Mark Wohlwend as we speak along with my BK11 getting a piggyback Kydex sheath made ! So this will make the BK9 (IMO) Perfect !

i'll keep my BK9 :)

had some earlier version of the big RAT chopper, and they didn't fit my hands well.

for the money as well, the KaBar Cutlass and such are darn fine for the money.

those zombie blades are rather good too, esp if you need something FAST and light.

Hey Everybody......

I like the Junglas a lot......It is a well balanced, chopping machine........It is a really good blade and extremely well made......Much superior to the RTAK in my oh so humble opinion, which goes to show that Jeff IS educable and CAN learn new tricks.........Although neither blade was designed for smaller tasks the BK9 is better at the little stuff and is more compact and a little lighter and it also chops well=--- but for pure chopping (I am loathe to admit) the Junglas is a better performer......As usual the effective differences in steel and etc are minimal.....And as usual we offer a damn decent blade at a damn decent price......BTW, I love the look of micarta....Micarta IS bombproof.....But the only guy I know who actually broke a Grivory handle put it in the freezer for 3 weeks and then beat on it with a steel bar outside, on concrete, in the Canadian winter.....OK, OK then why do I have a bunch of my knives retrofitted with Micarta-----I really find Micarta to be a FINE fashion statement......But just like chrome trim don't make the car any faster, the Micarta don't make the knife cut any better.......All things considered-----NOT an easy choice........

All Best....

Thank you sir.

Yes, the Junglas is a better chopper, but the BK9 is definitely a better slicer. I don't know about you, but I use knives a HELL of a lot more for slicing than chopping. And for what it's worth, the BK9 is more of a better slicer than the Junglas is more of a better chopper, if that makes sense.

How about a wildcard competitor?

Dave Canterbury just wrapped up a Basic class yesterday and started posting pics. In one series, I noticed he had something very large strapped to his side instead of his omnipresent PLSK-1. I asked him if it was a Junglas, and he said No, it was a prototype Blind Horse knife called the "last chance jungle knife" (I believe). Must be the next BHK Outdoors knife. If they are getting into the big knife arena, you better believe its going to be bad a$$!

Becker and Blind Horse....2 great tastes that taste great together...

I like my BK9 and would rather have it than a Jung'' even if it cost twice as much the Jung''.!*

going to get a BK9 some day, tweeners and machax first.

the strap for the junglas sheath sure is handy. it has that little buckle on it. I appreciated working with it yesterday hanging off a hillside (side note the belt clip on the ESEE5 is crap it opens up too easy, doesn't spring back and with no retention strap the blade fell out, glad I didn't stab myself falling on it)(then I lost my new SOG multi and spent almost an hour retracing to find it. need a safety orange pouch!)

If you add micarta scales and kydex to the BK9 I think it gets pretty close to the price for the Junglas.

Can't go wrong with either blade though. Pick one and start chopping stuff up!

You're on the money there brother! BWT I'm surprised the screen name you're using wasn't taken already! I'm guessing you own a Junglas?

for PURE chopping in a large bladed knife my opinion goes something like this

BK9<Junglass<Boomslang

i personally think the boomslang is by far the best chopping knife in it's class, but i LOVE the bk9's utility and ergos.
