BL Goode Knife Passaround!!!

Brian, what kind of trap were you making in the pictures?

Baraberfobic, I made several variations for twitch-up traps with what you see there. One is my own trigger that I happened upon sort of by accident - the one with the pointed tip in the hole...it's a variation of an Ojibwe Bird trap. However, the items you mostly saw were "several triggers on one stick" so it would be easier to demonstrate the woodworking abilities of the knife.

When I have a chance, I'll finish assembling some of the traps to show their use.

That sure is a sweet blade. You guys are in for a treat playing with a B. Goode knife.

I'll second what Scott said. It just doesn't get any better:thumbup:

Okay guys - PM me your names, address, phone number or email it to ctwildernessgathering "at" yahoo dot com.

That goes for all of the participants.

Anyone get the knife I made yet?? Just excited to see what you guys do with it.

I think Brian and Mapper are getting together for a hike tody nd it will be handed off to Mapper then.

Brian, Did the handoff! Mapper was floored and drolling over the knife, as I have been!

You can bet he'll put it through some good paces. We had a great hike today and we are both beat. It was a long and arduous hike, especially with a heavy big backpack on!

I love Brian's work. I was able to handle some of his work at Blade, but this is the first time I've been able to use one of his blades for real.

So first impressions; check out one of Brian's blades and you realize two things, not only is Brian an extemely skilled knifemaker, but also a very talented knife designer as well. I was checking out his website and the range of stuff he offers is pretty astonishing. Choppers, camp knives, skinners, parers, chef's knives, complete kitchen sets. And then check out the sheaths!

So specs on this knife:

9.5" OAL
4 3/4" blade length
D2 Steel @ RC 61 and 1/8" stock.

Of course, this knife is designed for the precision tasks, and it excels at that. This one is actually from his Kitchen cutlery series, but more than stout enough for outdoor use as Brian J shows above. Brian J got some great bushcraft type pics, so thought I will just include a couple:

This knife feels great in hand, very well designed and executed handle.
If you want a blade that can knock out a mean figure 4, or slice up your steak, this is the blade for you.

Now, the question we all want answered is, are you accepting orders again! ;)
I really, really need a Companion!

All right, Theo, you are up next! Off to NYC tomorrow. Thanks Brian G for letting us get a closer look at your work, and Brian J for puttng it all together.

Oh yea, lookie' what just showed up.

First impression - I love the feel of this knife: size, weight, handle, everything.

What's the word on sharpening? Right now its just barely shaving sharp, would it be ok for me to touch it up on some ceramic rods?

sharpen away :) GEt her next to some her relatives. Dont you have another one of my knives?;):D

Lot's of people claim that D2 has large, unsharpenable carbides. Well that is certainly not the case here. I spent 5 minutes on an ultra-fine ceramic and look what she does now:

Here's a shot of her with her kinfolk. I hope she doesn't kick and scream when it comes time to move on ;)

Glad you got it. Theo! Hmmm, it was shaving sharp when I turned it over to Mapper...:D

Brian, Tim and I would love to visit your shop and drool over your knives in person soon! :D

Brian - Bad part is I dont have that many of my knives actually at my house!!! My last fathersday knife....NO ONE WILL BE GETTING AWAY FROM ME. It works oh so good!!!
