BL Goode Knife Passaround!!!

Has the knife been received? I haven't gotten the signature thinger back yet...mailed on 2-sept..

dougo83 - I did get the knife! Thanks.

I found it waiting for me Thursday night when I got home late.

I've done some testing today and will have to get that review up to.

I now have to work all day Monday so I'll have to send it out Tuesday morning. Who's the next on the list? Looks like Il Bruche. I'll e-mail Brian for the address.

First impression is nice. I find it would be a good companion knife for me to a bigger blade. I like it all but if I was keeping it for a primary knife I would want the handles a little bigger in diameter to fill the grip.

As it is, it handles well. Very light and quick and does fine work well. I like the blade thickness and the shape. It would be a great food prep/finesse wilderness blade. Widen the grips and it could fall into a primary role pretty quickly.

Very nice. Beautiful craftsmanship. Another that I will hate to see go.

Hey Dougo, What did you think of the knife?

I am still tryin to compose a halfway decent review. It was beautiful and handled well but the grip felt a little small in my hand. More to come soon.

the grip size was sort of I wanna see what this is like, so I made it :) It was meant to be a more finger pinching hold instead of a normal fist grip.

The blade shape was designed as a kitchen food prep, but after using it, I could see it in the bush as well.
ENJOY FELLAS!!

The BL Goode knife:

I really liked the look of this blade first off. It just looked like the finest craftmanship I have seen.

I ran it through a couple of small tests as I was basically confined to my house and such for most of the weekend. The first test was done in the kitchen. I was making salsa so this knife got run through all kinds of veggies. Just loved how it could cut paper thin slices of peppers and tomatos. I used it to cut some roast beef and such too for lunch and it it was like using a slicer.

I then decided to test my amazing trap-making skillz  I took it out and notched some cedar that I had previously battoned with my Ka-Bar. It put together a pretty decent figure four trap, or at least my interpretation of a figure four. I am not very adept at the trap making thing.

My final test of the weekend was stripping fishing line to set up my fly rod for my next fishing trip. The knife performed great. I even managed to take a chunk out of my finger. Of course, I was telling my youngest brother how to be safe with a knife as I did it.

So...here's my thoughts on the knife:

Pros:

Cuts really well. The knife is well-built and feels stout in the hand, but is light enough and well-balanced enough for finer tasks. Of course, it looks friggin nice as well.

Cons: The handle was a little smaller than I prefer, but it was still manageable. And..I had to give it back.

Great knife. I hope y'all enjoy it as well.

Sorry about getting cut buddy!! But a sharp knife heals faster :)

Good feedback brother. Thnaks for the pro's and the con's as well. Looking forward to more use from the thread :)

All great knives are sharp! I only wish I had the time for being part of the pass around......:(

Found a few pics on my camera :o

Got the knife today. Going to be working a double...but I'll use it to cut up some leather for sheathes tomorrow.

Sorry for the delay.

Got to use the knife a bit. I tried to use it while cutting some leather for sheathes. I find a flat grind doesn't work well for this. A convex edge slides through much easier. I know the knife wasn't intended for this task but I thought I'd try it anyway.

So I used it a bit in the kitchen. The knife really shined here. I used it to cut up some purple beans from the garden and some chicken.

If I had this knife in my kitchen arsenal I would throw away all of the other similar sized blades. I like the slim grip and the light weight of the knife.

To me it seems like a great all around knife for kitchen work. Long enough to cut through most anything so it would probably be used all the time. The thin grip allows you to grasp it like a pencil for controlling the tip. This grip works great on vegetables and meat, not so good on something more resistant like 9 ounce leather. I'll play with it a bit more and then send it to Tony on Monday.

Never had purple beans, Looks good.

Nice pics and good review. Can't wait to get it, I hope it's still sharp.

glad to hear you found the knife to shine in the kitchen. That was the original purpose of the pattern:thumbup:

Got the knife today. It came nice and sharp and even oiled up! That's the usual when ever Ilbruche is shipping

I will give it some use on Monday as thats when I am off and have it shipped on Tuesday.

So far I am really liking the way it feels. I can see it is definately strong enough to handle outdoors duty, but I am also gonna keep this one in the Kitchen.

Keep? What the hell d'ya mean keep???!!!?? :D

Enjoy - this is one of the best knives I ever used!

Ok fellas all done playing I guess.:(

This knife is awesome, fit and finish is perfect. The grinds were perfectly even and I loved the handle contours.

I can see this knife could handle outdoors duties with ease as some of you have already showed, but it feels at home in the kitchen.

I wouldn’t mind the handle to be a little thicker, but it was still comfortable while using it.

I didn’t do too much, but here are some pics.

The knife performed superbly and blew away any of my kitchen knives in the tasks performed.
