The family and I are headed to the beach for our annual vacation and I thought I'd try and match some of my buddy KBA's pictorial skills while taking each of you on vacation with me. KBA similarly did the same, and I found the pictures well presented, and it felt like i journeyed with him each day as he posted a new picture. I found myself trying to figure out where he was. I intend to do the same, but with a little additional hitch. At the end of this vacation, I will give one of you a knife. It's been a while and I'm due to give back to you all. I won't tell you what knife it is, but it will match the theme of the week, and if you are familiar with my other giveaways, it will be a quality piece.

Here is how it will work:
Each day I will update this post.
The update will include a picture of a knife that follows the the theme of this thread's title. BLACK TO THE BEACH.
Each day I will also add a clue as to the exact location of which we are vacationing.
To participate, you must "like" my post and subscribe to "watch this thread".
Following June 23rd's update to this post, you may then enter one address as a guess as to where we stayed for the week.
If you have over 100 posts on BF, you will get two guesses.
If you have a gold membership or higher, you get three addresses.
The closest to the street address wins and you won't be disappointed.

Day 1-Pack Day

We will be on the east coast.

Day 2-Travel Day And Afternoon Arrival

Today's clue is with respect to the picture immediately below. I'm a mining engineer with emphasis in underground coal. Each year we pass this facility on our way to the beach. This is one of three coal loading facilities located at this eastern U.S. port.

For the ride down I chose my 92. Here is a fresh and ripe white peach from my mandatory-annual stop at this particular market. Fresh fruit and vegies are procured for the week's rations.

Upon arrival.

Day 3-Beach All Day

Today's clue is we are in a state where Venus Fly Traps grow.

Father's Day Breakfast At The Beach. I called on the 42.

And then an after dinner treat.

Day 4- Beach And Pool All Day

The wind picked up but we stuck it out for half of the day on the beach, then we high tailed it back to the pool. Still, a wonderful day.

Clue- We are on a barrier island that is comprised of two different counties.

Today I carried my 38. Such a wonderful pattern. For me, there isn't much better than a peach that is in season...

Just goodness.

Tomorrow is one of my favorite days of the week. I spend 14 hours working the pit. I have 3 pork butts that will go on at 6am. Tune in tomorrow....

Day 5- SAGE Day

Clue-We are south of a lighthouse who's caretaker was credited with convincing the Wright brothers to use Kitty Hawk for their test flights. And we are north of a lighthouse that is on the third iteration. This lighthouse's predecessor was actually destroyed in 1861 by retreating Confederate troops who feared it would be used as a Union observation post during the Civil War.

Today was SAGE Day at the beach. It's a silly name for a few of us that like to BBQ. SAGE-Society of American Grilling Engineers. We rose at 5 and placed 3 butts on the smoker. We made my favorite baked bean recipe, creamy coleslaw, tomatoe/cucumber salad, and mac n cheese. What a meal. Whenever I grill I have my 2012 Bark River Knife and Tool Club knife on me. It's really a camp knife, but it's fun to use.

Here is what makes the beans special.

Two butts on top and one down the hole.

Pulled pork goodness. Time for my bbq coma.

Day 6 through 8 will be in post #3. See post #3 for explanation.

Reporting on day 6 has proven to be a major PITA. On a mobile device, when you get a pop up window that you have a new conversation. I suggest saving what you have done prior to attempting to migrate away from the pop up window. All edits were gone. Then I completed the update a second time to find out that I exceeded 1000 characters in the same post (Post #1). I hit the back button to migrate away from the warning and......all gone again, so Day 6 udates and updates through the end of vacation will be here, if all goes well.

Day 6- Third times a charm, I hope.

Clue-This morning my boys participated in a fishing tournament that was held in memory of Fritz Boyden. The town we are staying in is in the name of the fishing club that sponsored the tournament.

Today was fun, unfortunate and then beautiful. Fun with the kids at the pier, beautiful in that the beach from noon on was perfect, but unfortunate in that we had to take my youngest to urgent care for an earache. My youngest has been plagued with ear issues since birth. He has undergone 3 surgeries and is highly susceptible to ear problems. He would not let the pain hinder his attending the fishing derby though. I have two boys that like to fish more than anything. My youngest hid how painful his ear was until he made sure he was on the board in the tournament. I could not touch my finger to his earlobe without it bringing a tear to his eye. Poor boy. He will miss water activities for the rest of the week.

Today was the day of the 57

Look it's a bird, it's a plane, no it's a fighter jet in a knife pic. Buzzing the coast at the tip of my index finger.

Day 7/8-Crab Day/Pack Day

Clue-If you've been following you should know the town by now. Some of you may have us pinpointed, but today's clue will provide a higher level of detail regarding our street address so that we can have some room for various guesses. We are just less that 1.5 miles from Fishheads Bar and the OBX fishing pier, and we are less than 2.5 miles from the end of the beachhouses and the beginning of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore.

You may now enter your guesses as to the exact location of our vacation house for the week.

Day 7/8 Today is pack day, so we are flying around trying to make sure we don't leave anything behind, so ill dwell more on yesterday. The morning started with a call from an official from the youth fishing tournament. He asked if Thomas, my youngest and I could meet him at TW's Bait and Tackle. He said he had a surprise for Thomas. When we got there we found out that out of 210 kids, Thomas had won for his age class. The gentleman presented my youngest with a really nice trophy and a brand new lightweight saltwater Diawa spinning rod and reel. Boy you should have seen Thomas's face, he forgot all about that ear infection. His head is a bit swelled. He had to take his "special award" down to the beach to show all his cousins.

The next item on day 7's agenda was to meet my commercial crabbing friend Gene with Half Fast Seafood. Gene has always taken care of me and he is a super nice guy and we people who crab recreationally know what to look for in quality blue crab and Gene is always top of the current market on quality and price.

First you put them to sleep with ice so they are docile.

Then we dump beer vinegar and water into my pot. Next we load corn in the husks on the bottom, then a layer of crabs, then our favorite steaming spice, then another layer of crabs, then spice and so on. Kick the jet propane burner on and steam those crabbies for 30 minutes.

Blue crabs, when properly cooked tun bright red. At this point you start pickin crabs and drinkin beer.

Now, please post your guesses, but give me some time to respond. We are going to be driving most of the rest of today and on top of all this, we leave for family reunion tomorrow morning that is 3 hours from our home. I'll monitor and comment as I get a chance. Good luck everyone.

That is a nice little organizer you have there, mind if I ask the make?

Have fun on the trip, I hope it is a safe one.

Eta: that improved 48 has seen some sharpenings in its lifetime, eh? It is a nice pattern, I am glad to see it earning its keep.

The organizer was a gift from our friend KBA. Inside I found a very nice pen, a silver coin and an ACSB QCC gunstock. Imagine my surprise that day. The organizer is Maxpedition brand. Probably a small but I'm not sure of the size.
The 48 rocks, and this is from the first run. When black was black, not brown. I like black covers ;)

I like GAWs that involve games and puzzles.:thumbsup: Have a great holiday, and I look forward to following along. :)

This is going to be fun! Thank you for the GAW opportunity and for letting us tag along on your vacation. I hope you and your family have a wonderful trip.

Have a great holiday :) Nice idea :) I'm afraid I'm unlikely to have a clue where you are, but looking forward to seeing the pics! :D

I totally agree - this sounds like a lot of fun. What a great idea for a giveaway. Have a great vacation!

My family is vacationing at the beach this week also. I may have passed the same coal loading facility on the way to our destination.

Nice 92. The black on that one is definitly all black without any streaks of brown.

If all you want is the State, I had that yesterday.

How exact do you want?
State, town, street, house number?

Lol
