BLACK To The Beach-GAW

Ok, the family reunion that we were at yesterday was in a remote area and I had zero cell/internet service, and let's just say we had so much fun we decided to stay over. Anyhow, guessing is closed as of right now. More to come later tonight.

Ok members. It's been a busy weekend, but it's time to give away a knife to all those following along my vacation last week. What many do not know is that I had multiple guesses taking place during the week before the 23rd even hit, and two of them were correct. The good members kept their secret from this thread so as not to spoil the adventure for the others. My thanks to you for doing so. The correct address for last week's vacation address was:
9429 S Old Oregon Inlet Rd, Nags Head, NC 27959
For those members who guessed correctly via post or PM, you will be assigned a number in the order of your time stamps. A random number generator will then be employed and a winner will be selected.

In keeping with the theme of black knives at the beach, the winner will receive a brand new #14 boys knife with gabon ebony covers.

I will announce the winner tomorrow. Good luck to all you diligent detectives. I had a wonderful time and I hope you enjoyed the adventure as well.

Take care,
Josh

Well heck, if I'd known I could PM ahead of time .
Great vacation, great GAW and I can't wait to see who wins.

This morning I assigned each member with the correct address a number. The number corresponded to the time stamp of your PM or post. The earliest guess received #1 and each sucessful guess increased in number by time stamp order.
Here is the list:

I would also like to thank everyone for the conversation and laughs that I got from the thread, and continue to do so from the Porch.

Ok folks, Update time!

The 14 arrived from Josh on Thursday, and I didn't get a chance to open it until Much later that night.
I normally prefer a bit larger of a knife, not much larger, but more so nonetheless. I didn't think that a small traditional would be quite as comfortable, considering I am accustomed to a four finger grip. A little ways back, I was inquiring about a knife for my Grandfather, and a 14 was one of the front runners, so my interest was piqued additionally when I heard that I was going to be receiving one.

That brings me to where we are now.
I touched up the edge when it landed, and it is Very thin BTE (I didn't measure it, but I would venture a guess of .010 - .015), with a little beef left in the tip. During this time, I started to get a feel for the knife, and I could see that it was genuinely comfortable to hold. Not that it was "just acceptable", or it was OK in a pinch grip, but the knife actually fit my hand really well. Still smaller than I would have presumed that I would like, but comfortable none the less. This knife lands perfectly at the end of my ring finger, and for a smaller, thin stock knife, I don't think that I would ask for it to be any different.

The knife has spent all day with me yesterday, and I used it a bit for various tasks since my daughters 3rd birthday is coming up (plastic tags on clothing, boxes and tape, an apple for each of us, et al). It took me a day of use, and some time thinking about the knife to actually put it into its "place", since I tend to categorize things.
To me, This knife showed me why folks have fond memories of their grandfather's knife. That trusty companion that he always had in his pocket but never put anyone on edge, never was flashed about, never did anything other than what was needed and then back home it went.

Yes, this knife is small. Yes, it does fit (most of) my hand. Yes, this knife disappears in the pocket. Yes, this knife helped me realize why my 82 year old Grandfather, who wears a size 18 ring, carries a peanut daily. And Yes, this knife should last me until I can pass it down to my Grandchild.

Josh, Thank you for helping me broaden my horizons. I normally would have balked at the size and pattern, and I would never know what I was missing. 50 years from now, if I am still kicking, I will peel an apple with this knife and thank you for the opportunity.

All the Best.

Great review. I appreciate your knife nuttiness, if you know what I mean. You genuinely appreciate the knife for what it is. Enjoy it and thanks everyone.
