Blade Brothers Discovery 9pm

His fixed blades are are about as far away from the knives that interest me as you can get.

That's because his fixed blades are made to be put on display and not used. They are made as "luxury collectible knives". Kind of like Buster Warenski's million dollar knives made out of gold and embezzled with priceless jewels.

I agree that the show highlighted the wrong aspects. Todd makes some really nice knives, but half the show was dedicated to claws and cleavers and the other half was dedicated to family drama. I loved the parts that actually showed the knife making process. I hope this show gives him enough money to produce more bodegas, I'd really like one of those eventually and I think he has the ability to make a lot of classy knives.

Plus you gotta think that discovery is making it that way. Like occ just became an advertising show for whatever customer they built bikes for. Just the way it goes it seems. Look at sons of guns and all the stupid non sense crap they make... just for views that's all. Seriously red jacket makes some stupid ass stuff and peo dig that show. Different strokes for different folks. At least its a show about our hobby. . . KNIVES! !!!

I watched the show. I agree the interactions with his brother is not necessary. I like his Bodega series and I even like the cleaver. But the producers really need to focus on the knife making part of the show. And just a note, I would kill to have his work space and tools! I work on a coal forge and have a belt grinder. Not much else. So his machine shop is my dream.

According to the show, he's a "legend in the knife community". Been collecting high-end customs for many years but never heard of the guy.

You've been collecting high end customs for years yet you've never heard of Todd Begg??? He's been around for awhile.

I don't care for reality shows, and didn't care for the brother Mark. Didn't care much for the knives highlighted either, but I still liked it OK since it was a show about knives.

From what I understand that was the only two episodes that will air.

I read in another thread that another show was in the works on another network. I'll watch it too.

+1, pretty much my thoughts.

But the producers really need to focus on the knife making part of the show. [/QUOTE] That is NOT how you drive ratings with these idiotic "reality" shows.

Its kinda the direction Discovery went with programming, at some point they missed the point. Like the scripted seen in the ice cream shop some brain dead producer thought that would make for good TV. They need to focus on the Knives and the evolution of Todd Begg. One of my grail knives is a LS Bodaga. Just like the Red Jacket show the stuff they do most of us will never own. I like how they put supperssers on everything but they do not tell you that you need to get a tax stamp from the ATF to own one and they are backed up over a year now. ive been waiting for over 9 mounts now for the ATF to approve a can for my 10/22, but that's a different topic.

Sorry, guys. Please forgive my ignorance of this Begg guy. I've seen the bodegas before but never knew who made them. Those look good but arent my thing. Even with my lack of knowledge on the maker, the show is a total flop imho. And the fixed blades look like the plastic swords my 5-year-old son is into.

This show was crap at least on occ they still made bikes you could ride lol. Wolverine claw come on really I almost turned it off at that point. The bodega is a sick knife and im sure that he makes other cool knives. But I dont wanna see the budk catalog on tv. It was interesting where he was doing the damascus blade but besides that nothing. I really wish the show would have been better. Its a shame a was so pumped about a show about knives. Discovery went the wrong way on this one.

Show was crap. Standard "let's create fake drama" format like the various gun or motorcycle building shows.

Wow, someone will come in and throw a ton of cash at a build, but is has to be done on an "almost impossible" deadline. But watch out, someone's gonna do something zany that will make it hard to hit the deadline! Oh no! And the typical "here's a funny prank that he'll never see coming!" Of course, the cameras are set up to catch the action and reaction expression from every angle, so it's clear it's staged as can be.

Just pure schlock. No comment on the ability of the knife maker, just the show is a crap factory.

Anybody seen the reality show Blade Brothers on the Discovery Channel? If not, avoid it. Terrible show. Actually, no, you should check it out. It's worth watching for the exactly same reason we all stare at car wrecks when we pass by, morbid curiosity.

The show is about a custom knife maker named Todd Beggs. According to the show, he's a "legend in the knife community". Been collecting high-end customs for many years but never heard of the guy. Now I know why. The knives are kind a cross between silly fantasy themed blades for teenagers and the mall ninja junk available at any swap meet for $5-$10. Except these are made of very high end materials by some skilled craftsmen so they go for thousands of dollars. Still, as a "knife guy" I was interested in seeing the actual production of the knives. Unfortunately very little of that was to be seen. In the end, the knives, in my opinion, are not suitable for the woods, work, kitchen, EDC or battle and thus kind of pointless (no pun intended).

The man himself, Todd Beggs, seems to be a pretty cool guy but his little brother Mark drives me up the wall. He's the kind of guy we have all met at parties: the dude who thinks he's super funny but no one ever laughs at his jokes. His constant, nonsensical antics really lower the enjoyment factor on a show that was already iffy to begin with. Sadly this is what the show is actually about: Todd's interactions with his brothers, Mark in particular. Well, that, and them trying to sell ridiculously gaudy knives to people who have way too much money to spend.

I think it's great that Discovery has tried to make a show pertaining to the industry we here at Bladeforums love but this one is a miss. Discovery could have literally taken the names of 10 reputable custom makers, picked one out of a hat and I promise you it would have been a better show.

One might think that, in spite of the absurdity of the show, it might bring interest to the industry. I disagree. Considering the content of the program I actually think it will drive people away. And I'd really hate for people to think, that since I'm a "knife guy", I have anything in common with some of the people on the show or that I'm interested in the kind of products they are making.

Anybody else seen this farce and care to weigh in here?

This whole Thread equals fail. Todd begg is probably one of the most talented and highly respected makers in the industry. Yes some of his knives have a fantasy theme but they are not the mall ninja junk you see at well, the mall. His are considered concept art. And functional concept art on top of that. And that folder you think is $4000 is actually a quarter of the price. Its a bodega. Probably the hottest selling IKBS flipper currently in production. Honestly I would have googled and did some reading before posting this. Or at least searched the forums for his name. You basically crapped on a legend. Thats like taking a trip to Las Vegas with intents to insult Elvis. Bad idea.

p.s. His brother Mark Is actually a member of this forum and occasionally updates us on Todds new work. Hope he stops by to give us his input.

I hate to be negative and think Todd makes nice knives but the five minutes of the show that I watched was unbearable.

If/when Mike Snody gets his show, I guarantee it will blow this out of the water. There's no way Mike would let them talk him into making a show like Blade Brothers, which is why I know it will be good.

Sorry dude. Never heard of till today. And let me correct you he WAS one of the most highly respected(mabey, I dont know). The show makes him out as something far less. On the show he said they were going for $4000, in the end I dont care how much they go for. And all I keep hearing is "bodega, bodega, bodega" does the guy make anything else worth mentioning or is he just a one trick pony? Oh, and why would I google about a show I just watched before posting? I dont care about the maker really, it's the show that stinks. I didnt crap on a legend, I crapped on his lame tv show.

PS Just about everyone here agrees that the show is a joke. Google THAT.

PPS. Oh, wait, I did crap on the fixed blades featured on the show. But just look at them, man, really

Honestly, I like the look of the Bodega, but if he is really going to turn that part of the operation over to the nutty younger brother, I think quality will suffer and I'd think twice about buying one. I think the show targeted people who have wild ideas of knives, not true knife enthusiasts. It perpetuates the myth of knives as weird weapons. Should appeal to high school kids.
