blade forum knife ready yet

I am thinking the taboo with an exotic steel blade that is boron coated with a Ti or boron coated steel handle with carbon fiber inserts.

YXR7 steel - Japanese low carbon (relatively) high-speed matrix steel is used only by Roakstead and performs very well by reports - this is pair to ZDP189 which is very hard, this one is very tough (being over 62HRC) which results in very good edge holding (reportedly):

So Roakstead are known as Ferrary of knife world and introduced first ZDP-189 which now well known and adopted by all top knife manufacturers however second steel Roaksted introduced went unnoticed by US knife-makers.

So having special relation with Japan - Kershaw probably may deliver YXR7 to us this wonder-steel (as well as SRS15 - high speed stainless...).

Thanks, Vassili.

Ok, I have been thinking and drawing up designs on paper more, and I think that a Spec Bump with the AO On/Off switch, ZDP-189 blade, an integral frame lock, and a finger hole like a karambit.

A ZDP-189 Cyclone with a karambit finger hole would be awesome as well.

The blade forum knife will be based on a design that is already being made or is in progress. No changes to existing blade shapes. Sorry.

And, the Forum knife is going to be a Taboo! Nothing else!

hello mcfly-go back to the beginning-i am the deciderer:mad:

so i think the first thing i should come up with is blade steel-i can decide the knife design later -

i really think the damascus kershaw does is some of the best ive seen-the etch just stands out -

so the blade will be damascus wire cut with a sg2 edge-hows that sound for starters

Alright then, if it can't have a base model of a knife in existance, then the taboo with all the modifications I mentioned earlier.

Though not necessarily a Leek, and I was thinking a ZDP edge.
A Shallot would be nice.

i would use a dovetail cut instead of that wave one-and on a wide blade like the mini cyclone i think it would work great

I agree, I like the look of the dovetails. The Leek and the wavy cut were just the ones I already had shopped together.

Does it have to be a Kershaw, how about the ZT0200?

I suppose that would be too big for most people.

R.A.M. or Ener-G II then?

its got to be in the 3'' range for this to work

also i would like to keep the lock side ti and a framelock

Well, I see you all are really narrowing it down. At this rate you all should have a knife dialed in sometime in 2009.

OK ok....we all just had a vote in the back and " we " decided on the composite Melee with a Ti frame lock. :D ;)

HARDY HAR HAR-

we already have the steel for the blade figured out-the lock style also-

go make another one off and give it away why dont you

Ener-G, Mini-Cyclone, JYD.

The blade is longer than you want, but a Ti Bump would be great.

The Mini-Cyclone, the Leek, and Ti Bump, would probably be the most cost effective models to use (from Kershaw's point of view) since they have already done Ti frame locks in these. Since they are about to do a Ti JYD II, that might be cost effective also.
The Mini-Cyclone, Bump, JYD and JYDII have the wider blades to show off the wire cut composites.
