Occasionally, I get flak for some of the stuff I bring (tomahawks, larger blades, tarps rather than tents, etc), but then again, my cub scouts (boys and girls) are the only ones at the last scout gathering that built their own shelters and slept in them at -10 celsius. They've almost sworn off tents by now. Fortunately, though we're still seen as a bit 'wierd', the other troops can't argue with demonstrably superior outdoors skills in the cubs and seem to have respect for how we're teaching the kids. Scouting is sadly now a largely urban pursuit, and suffers accordingly in many areas.
Keep it up, Normark. There's more of us around than we think, and Scouting relies on us to stand fast in the face of fear and ignorance....
