Blade Show 2020

Okay, you asked why not. I went last year, and it really sucked. Maybe 1/3 of the show is about makers and vendors displaying and demoing their new products. The other 2/3 is a giant flea market of crap. Anything from carved Indian heads to silver coins. It's like a really small blade show grafted into a large garage sale.

I've been to every BLADE show since it has been in Marietta, and I'd say your description is more personal opinion. I'm going to go with 2/3rds was knives you had no interest in, not crap.

I love the Marietta diner :)

I always take that place for granted. Way back when the Ambulance company I worked at would meet up with the boss for lunch on payday. That was one of the spots we'd hit. Back then it was not as nice as it is now, still decent food, but more like a nicer Waffle House.

I went to Bladeshow last year, and those “junk” flea market tables had Lakes, Centofante’s and Lorchener’s, as well as many other amazing makers knives I couldnt afford.

In fact, one of my highlights was walking over to a “flea market” vendor and saying “Wow, is that an Elizabeth Lorchener under that Centofante?” She smiled and said yes, I asked the price and when I told her I couldnt afford that price, I sheepishly asked if I could hold it. She looked at me with an inquisitive look. Her reply was “Well, you picked out a Lorchener without batting an eye, so yes.” :D

Other highlight was meeting Ron Lake in person, and having an excellent chat. Ps. Pat Crawford was also there sitting beside Ron. What a privilege!!

And one of the best parts of BS is meeting up with my maker friends, and friends here on BF. I also get to figure out what makers I would never ever buy from, and the makers I would definitely buy from.

Bladeshow is way more than just trying to score the newest knife for the IG photo that may get you 50 “likes.” Its about friendships, and good times, and getting a healthy dose of the new knives to come.

But ya, I highly highly doubt it will happen this year.

I live in Marietta, so can say for sure if Blade Show is on......BYOTP. If not it's a big loss for June in Hotlanta.

If it goes off at all it will be the smallest show in decades. The show requires a lot of preparation and logistics and not much of that is in place.

If they don’t cancel it, the thing will be a major embarrassment to show’s producer.

hey buddy

it’s a shame

no matter when they have it this summer the show is going to not work

they need to move it to the fall or just cancel for this year

the new owner does not want to refund anything to the people that make this show great and is stalling ..... plain and simple
Hi Joe, wow I didn't know it changed ownership. I have doubts as to scheduled airline flights that have been affected as well.

Per their website "BLADE SHOW 2020 will take place"

Are you still planning on attending Blade Show? Why or why not?

I had to cancel my reservations. It would have been my first trip to BLADE. I am a nurse working at a small community health center. My boss had to cancel all approved time off until a date yet to be determined. It is disappointing, but hopefully 2021 will be bigger and better than ever.

.... I’m basically writing it off this year as a no go
That's my personal view. Can you imagine the line length if social distancing is maintained to get into the show? How about inside.... impossible to maintain any reasonable distance if the show has its normal attendance.

I don't see the Covid-19 stuff really dying down until fall and hopefully there will be a vaccination (with accelerated protocols for approval) at that point. It is possible it could happen in the fall, but as mentioned the logistics would make a re-schedule very tenuous.

I have been going since 1991 most years.....

I agree

For someone that stands at a booth and talks to people all day which I generally really love doing this whole thing is quite disheartening

things would really have to change

I doubt it will happen at the rate this disease moving onwards. shame too, but not worth people getting sick and maybe dying.

I also love the Marietta Diner - cool place and when you walk in and see all the cakes and pies. Yea, good eating there.

I also like the Flying Biscuit - it's an Atlanta original and I first went there way back in the mid 90's at the downtown location, but now they have a few satellite locations and one is not too far from the Sheraton.

The irony is that we moved from Illinois down to south Tennessee and this year it was only going to be a 2.5 hour drive.

Looks like Blade West will be in the offing for us at this point.

best

From someone who works in the trade show industry, I can tell you, with 95% certainty, that it won’t happen in June. Everything, across the industry, is either being cancelled this year, or pushed into fall - if they can get a hall date.

Y’all need to try the red-eyed mule for lunch sometime also. Just a few miles from the Marietta Diner. I live close enough to not need a hotel, all I need is a clear afternoon to make the show. I know others have to plan and spend much more just to get there. Unfortunately there is much uncertainty all over. I think we all have hope for the best.

Saw on another forum that it is still on, but the date will be changed.

This is the shows owners just pushing off having to refund table and booth fees etc

This is the show owners trying to figure out if they need to cancel, or just postpone. They are waiting to see what vendors may or may not cancel. They are waiting to see if the venue will still allow them to proceed, and if not, can they get a later date in the fall?

If they cancel, they have to refund deposits already placed. If they can simply postpone and reschedule, they can just apply the fees already paid towards the new date.

If I were them, I would concentrate on Blade Show West in October at this point. Most will not attend Blade in Atlanta even if it is held in June or July. Even if the stay at home order is relaxed, little has changed and the chance of infection is significant. One needs to be very careful and you can't be careful at a full blown Atlanta Blade Show in June.

Boy your a rocket scientist

they do not want to refund

would be lucky if they just carried over all the full payments to next year

as soon as this started they conveniently pulled the final payments on tables

logistically most have schedules that will not allow going at a later date

I’ve worked this show for over a decade and for them to still be selling tickets still is nonsense

in my mind to make this work they need to cancel this years show period and reschedule for next year

no one in the next few months is going to work a room or attend a show with thousands of people in it wearing masks etc

it’s a joke
