Blade Show 2024 Atlanta

Did anybody see these around the show? I think I saw about 3 of them. Weighed about 20 pounds and for the low price of $7,700 😂. The guy at the Heretic booth let me hold it but I had to promise not to fire it. Sounded like a pump shotgun when he charged it

My first Blade Show! I bought this one from the man himself, Greg Medford. He test fired it and handed it to me. Told me if I ever have any issues with it to contact him directly. His daughter made out the birth card while I watched. She also let me pick between silver and gold colored titanium razor blade free gift. I got #065.

It was a tremendous show this year, had a lot of fun, met a lot of cool folks, and spent entirely too much money (as usual!)

Looks like you grabbed some great knives this year, especially that damascus Les George! What is the bit driver in the upper left?
It's a CRKT...uh, well bit driver (I'm sure it has a name, don't remember). It actually came with Wiha bits in it!! Not bad for like $30, especially after we got back from the show on Friday afternoon and discovered that none of us had brought any tools with which to adjust pivots or screws on all our new toys. Completely slipped my mind. So, Saturday, walked in, and went right there because my bud grabbed one and thus we were able to get things properly tuned and overall fidgited with afterwards.

LOL...yeah. There was one at Omega Knives, one of the retailers that had several of my knives for sale.

I had a great time at Blade Show and did have a few pickups.

First we have a folder by Fulvio Cuccurullo. My wife and I were able to spend an evening with Fulvio back in 2019 when we visited Italy and he took us out for some amazing pizza and toured some of Naples. His knives were very nice back then but his game has really elevated and he is making some beautiful knives that are also quite affordable in my opinion (but for how much longer?). This knife has a mirror polished RWL-34 blade.

Sticking with Italy, Alfredo Faccipieri gave me this kitchen knife in MagnaCut. Alfredo has been a big Knife Steel Nerds supporter and jumped on MagnaCut early. He is a fun guy to meet so if you have a chance to see him at a show definitely jump on it.

Last year we released a redesigned Buck 501 called "The Larrin" that I helped design. For the Blade Show we had a special version run of 100 with elk horn with a brass bolster. I really like this combination of traditional materials and updated classic design with the MagnaCut blade.

At the end of the show I was walking by the Boker booth and they were yelling out end of show discounts so I stopped and asked them if they had anything in MagnaCut. They brought out 3-4 knives and while I was handling them I said, "You know, MagnaCut is the steel that I worked on." The two guys looked at each other like they had another crazy guy at the booth so I picked the cool slipjoint and got it for the fire sale price of $70.

At the Blade Show awards ceremony Saturday night Steve Shackleford announced the "Best of Show" factory awards. In the middle of that he began to present the "Publisher's Award" which he said was an award that goes to someone who has made recent, significant contributions to the knife industry. To my surprise he began to give a short bio of me (!!), including my work on MagnaCut and studying and teaching about knife steel. I didn't really know what to say when I went up the stage to accept the trophy, so I said some things about how my father, Devin Thomas, has been a big influence in my life (he was inducted into the Blade Cutlery Hall of Fame last year), and that the knife community has been very good to me. Overall a great Blade Show, though I have enjoyed all of them.

Not to derail the thread, but if you don't think legitamately deducting several thousand dollars from your taxable income makes a difference, I'd hate to see what your taxes look like.

Sam⚔️⚔️
I own an auto repair shop and have tens of thousands in deductions for shop equipment and training every year. I understand how it works.

If you spend $10k on your trip, you probably get a $3k-4k tax reduction as not everything can be deducted on a trip.

Great. I believe that was JB's point, that it helps/makes a difference, and he's correct. Enjoy your day, bud.

Congrats on the award.

That Cuccurullo folder is spectacular!
