BladeForums 2024 Traditional Knife

Where can you buy any new GEC knife from an authorized dealer, or an SFO from the dealer who commissioned it more than 5 minutes after it gets released? Okay, 5 minutes is a little quick on some knives so lets say 5 days. This one is over a year old.

Basically I mean BF has too much supply of a product the market doesnt want... Maybe too big, covers have colors that people don't like, the price was too high...

If the 2024 knife was limited to an order of 150 units or 200 units, then we'd be good. But, it was an order over 600 units if my memory from 2024 serves me well...

Demand was (and is) below the market supply of the good/service.

There also is the flippability factor with all GEC knives. The knives at dealer sites sell out because a good chunk of the buyers are only going to add $50 and sell them again somewhere. These stockmans were already high priced, and unattractive, and serialized, so there wasn't a chance to profit off them.

Well, someone profited on them. The ones that sold anyway.
This would have been no more than a $200 retail knife at any major dealer who sells GEC considering a 4 blade 91 sold for that about the same time as ours was made available. Factoring a low retail margin of 20% and that's $40 per knife at $200 per. 40x600 = 24,000. These were at least $50 over that and some paid $100 over.
I'd feel bad that they all didn't sell if 50x600 didn't equal 30,000.

Way back when this was a labor of love and we paid what the manufacturer charged for the knife. To keep it alive it ultimately became a dealer funded project with a premium for the branding. Both the dealer and the brand owner rightly wanted compensation and that's fine too. If I am wrong about what I speculated for the cost of around $160 then count the manufacturer as getting a premium from us as well. None of that really bothers me, such is life.
What chaps my ass is people acting like someone did us a favor.

IMHO.
Rant over.
I will never speak of it again.

Have you heard of the Titanic?

I spent several years in Orthtraylia building up an immunity to the insidious cult of flipping ...
HAVE YOU EVER seen the Paul Hogan Flipper movie? Orca? Nims Island?.
As a child I was forced to watch Salty The Seal episodes every Saturday morning.
I know ..believe me my Friends I know..how dangerous flippers are.

Happy New Year and fingers crossed we can work this out for 2026.

you know what'd be cool... waynorth waynorth released a black 88 bison belly... a forum knife could be a white bone 88 single blade lambfoot... we'd call it "the lamb's chop" or something...

It'd make an incredible pairing.
Great idea! I have an 88 Ironwood that I had a blade delete done to it. It left me with a single blade lambsfoot 88 and it is a treat, let me tell you. Haha.

Thanks for the offer!!! I wonder if Spark Spark has seen this yet??? The Lamb Chop is a great, catchy name!!! The knife would excell!!
And yes, yes it would, Charlie. :)

Regarding the financial and choice matters of the forum knife, as mentioned previously in this HUGE thread, here is a LOOSE summary:
1. Sparks does not have a super special relationship with Bill, as others do, thus he gets for us what is available. Other SFO makers can ask for more custom editions.
2. If the profit made, for/by Sparks, was considered good he would have been more than keen to have at least one every year/month.
3. Sparks made part of his fortune from selling his knife business (was about as big as SMKW and Knife center combined).
4. Most of his fortune was made from finding and selling Pirate treasure (hence his avatar), thus this forum and SFOs are small side-hustles of love for him, not really for any noticeable profit.

I hope this clarifies, again, some things.
