BladeForums 2024 Traditional Knife

There are different levels of abalone. The Case above from 1997 has large slabs of real abalone.
Its very hard to get that stuff now. The one in the link is pieced together from small bits of shell and is most likely just a thin layer with a clear acrylic cover over it. Thats what you get today.....

Bill explained to us the difference between ALVS and LVS abalone at the rendezvous. He used both, ALVS being a little cheaper. A layer of veneer abalone incased in acrylic. The process does make the abalone look attractive.

Abalone does look good on these but today it would be prohibitively expensive.....

Beautiful knife!

I remember back in the day…. (dating myself a bit here) a 3com PalmPilot handheld computer was 6oz, the light one that everyone coveted was the Palm V, which was 4oz. I was a real man and carried a steel-encased HP version which was a whopping 8oz, and which was universally panned in reviews for being a brick.

So, sounds fair to me. If we thought 6oz was fair in the pocket for a gadget that hasn’t been en vogue since the early days of our Afghanistan adventure, why not instead opt for a timeless piece of cutlery which has been universally esteemed for the past century as the most optimal configuration for equipping a man’s pocket? ;)

ah i was a kid when palm pilots were a thing, they cant be around any more are they?

Now we call them smartphones and they suck our lives away.

Funny, back then people really cared about weight and specs. I can’t tell you how heavy my iPhone is.

aint that the sad truth, ive seen people glued to their phones on subway stairs during rush hour times

You authorized the vendor to make a $10 withdrawal. You didn't authorize any further transactions so you should be able to dispute it. Using Paypal in no way gives the vendor carte blanche to make charges against your card without your permission. If your Paypal account is connected through a debit or credit card, you can also open a dispute with whoever issued the card.

What I learned today is that allowing the vendor to make a $10 withdrawal DOES authorize further transactions on the vendor's part. Apparently you enter into a relationship with the vendor at that point. It was eye opening.

More disturbingly, when the withdrawal was made, PayPal allowed my preferred method of payment to be changed from my credit card (with the protections if affords) to my old PayPal Credit account. It's all been pretty alarming.

Sadly, it is possible for a vendor to take repeated charges from your paypal account. I learned that the hard way when I used paypal to pay for something, and the following month I got dinged again for the same amount. I discovered that Paypal was allowing it, and I had to remove that vendor from authorized payees in my paypal account (in essence I had to blacklist them). I disputed the charge and got my money back.
