BladeForums 2024 Traditional Knife

I'm not going to lie, that feels like a lot of money for a knife that I will be getting purely as a part of collecting mementos of my enjoyment of the Porch, but it won't break the bank. I'm mostly just a little grumpy because I really only carry stainless steel knives regularly, and I like to make sure I carry knives I drop that kind of money on. But I'm in. As long as I'm hanging around the porch, and can afford it, I will be in for the annual knives.

But on the plus side, that is my oldest daughter's favorite pattern, so I suspect that this is a knife that will eventually get carried and used. Just probably by my daughter, not me.

This looks awesome! My absolute favorite knife is a Buck 301. My most favorite knife is a Buck 303. My Case '75 is great. I also really like a Case '18.

Anyway, this will be my first GEC stockman, and I'm pretty excited! As long as it's not a nail breaker, it'll get used a lot.

Inflation is up 3% so we had to raise the price by 50%. Makes perfect sense. I'm still in though LMFAO
You realize Spark Spark is fronting the money to get them made to then pack and ship them all mostly by himself.

Even if it were "3" percent that's 3 percent on boxes, shipping from GEC to him from him to you plus the general inflation of GEC making them.

Stuff adds up pretty quickly.

I'll keep the off-topic digression brief, but this is exactly the type of comment that makes my inner professor want to provide context.

The short version is that the _CURRENT_ inflation rate is 3%, but that does nothing to ameliorate the much higher inflation we dealt with over the last several years.

Unfortunately, our brains don't go "oh, well this is only 1.5% more than it would have been in February" they go "this is more than 50% more than I paid for a two-blade knife last year! Which was already more that 50% more than I was used to paying over the previous decade and a half."

I'll avoid any further digressions on the political ramifications of the difference between how human minds perceive inflation and how monetary policy decisions are made, because my own personal views based on my history of getting degrees in business and anthropology mean that my views usually don't line up with any mainstream takes. I just want to say that your response is entirely reasonable, inflation is just obnoxious.

Same, little too big to carry but I’ll collect all the BF knives I can.
