BladeForums 2024 Traditional Knife

Partly because we're all super-exicted and want to know details!

Also, the 3-spring stockman knives don't have a blade bent-inward so that the two small ones can share a spring.

I am _slightly_ concerned by how large this knife will be and making it a 3-spring might make it even more hefty.

Then again, if we're going to use it for hard, heavy work, then it makes perfect sense.

To me, a stockman should be 4" exactly and solid like the GEC 35 but that's just me.
Ah I see, Im excited as well. It seems like it’s going to be a keeper. Love the different bladeshapes we get as well.

Given the dimensions of this knife, three springs could lead to it being a 'potato in your pocket' unless you have ultra thin scale slabs and springs.

Buck 3 spring knives tend to be milder in performance but not weak. CASE 47 can have 3 springs and they snap well, I'd be almost certain GEC will opt for two springs. Their 2 spring Dixie is a beautiful large knife with very interesting blade choices, the later run are not known for great snap though.

Got out my Case 6375 and Buck 307 to drop in my pocket and get used to carrying a heavier pocketknife again (normally those two are reserved for hunting carry). Definitely feel the difference between the two big knives vs. my normal Medium Stockman carry, but really not bad at all. OH

Every year I see these knives, and think next year I'm going to be active enough (and purchase a membership)so that I qualify. And then another year passes with me making one or two posts... After seeing this render I'm a little bit sad since I really enjoy the stockman pattern. It looks like it's going to be a great knife, I'm excited for everyone who's able to get one and can't wait to see the pictures!

You could always just pay the 30 bucks to get a gold membership

You could pay for a gold membership and not have to worry about post count

I am also hoping for minimal krinking.

All my slip joints (including SAK) that have this feature don't get carried as much.

It's sorta irritating making a draw cut on paper or similar and having the blade cock-eyed during the pull.

A very minor nuisance, but still not my preference.

Saying all that, it's not a deal breaker, as there are many fine knives out there that have blades assembled in this way.

Got mine in, was going to grab this or the City Stock but with allotments on the latter being what they are, I decided to lock this one in and avoid any disappointment. Thanks very much for the effort that went into it and the opportunity. I love this pattern and I'm hoping GEC can pull this one off.

I feel like krinking is one of those things that the Internet heard about, made a fuss over, and now everybody is afraid of stockman pattern knives because they assume the blades will be crudely bent and cockeyed.

IMO it’s not common on good knives, or if it’s done, it’s so subtle as to be unnoticeable in the real world use of the knife.

While I respect your opinion G GaiusJulius , my experience and perception is vastly different than yours.
My experience and perception comes from almost 70yrs of pocket knife carry, which predates the interwebs by a bit eh.
And a couple of the knives in my collection predate my personal pocket knife experience, by decades.

I'm left handed. So what MIGHT seem "natural" and unnoticeable to a right handed person, is often, not always, 180degrees opposite for me.
One reason I generally won't buy a fixed blade belt knife unless the sheath is left handed or at least ambidextrous.
Tired of carrying fixed blades with the cutting edge turned the wrong way.

Pictured are 12 of my pocket knives. 9 are two spring knives and all are noticeably krinked. Some more than others.
The last three pictured are 3 spring knives and if krinked, not so noticeable.

Bear in mind, I haven't even gotten into the issue of blade rub which many of my 2 spring knives experienced.
That is until gently persuaded and corrected with patience and a mallet.

DISCLAIMER: None of the knives pictured are from Great Eastern Cutlery.
I would hope that GEC would do a better job with 2 spring Stockman knives.
But the thing is, while MUCH less and fewer and perhaps rare, I've encountered and seen the same general "defects / faults" in GEC knives as any production knife.
So time will tell, but I'll pass on this one. I'd rather purchase 250 lotto tickets than take a chance I'll be disappointed in the 13th addition to my collection.
Sure, "Get one and if you don't like it, pass it on". There is that option I guess, but I don't take pride in passing "disappointing" knives along.
... Not that ANY of these knives will be disappointing, just that I think I'll pass on another 2 spring Stockman altogether. My loss eh.

See the Monster GEC 98 Camp Knife for a good reference. (2) Springs with (4) blades, Krinking is a seemless transition at the tang ;)

Same boat but rolling the dice on Waynorth 😬 forum knife not being open to internationals yet helps.

Looking forward to this one. Is Waynorth sending these "way north"(Canada) again this year?

Got curious about model numbers for GEC and did some searching and found some answers... go something like this perhaps? (Correct me..)

#911324
91=pattern, 1=shape of main blade, 3=no. blades, 24=year

Main blade:
