BladeForums 2024 Traditional Knife

I guess I've just been staring at 1940 ish and earlier jigged bone too long, nothing about these covers appeal to me. Beauty is certainly in the eye of the beholder and I'm happy for the people who see this as a beautiful knife! GEC builds the finest modern slipjoints that I have had the pleasure of handling but they occasionally come up with some of the ugliest covers imaginable! Again, this is just my perception and none of this is intended to offend anyone. I very much appreciate the time and effort Spark and others from past forum knives have put into providing our members with a new Blade Forums knife every year. I have my tracking number and will eventually decide whether to have the covers replaced or put it on the exchange, a darker dye is not an option for me. Enjoy your new stockmans

Ugly or not at least you got your tracking already! I’m checking my mailbox everyday in hopes that it’ll just show up. Although if it does arrive before Christmas it’s going under the tree addressed “From Santa” to open with the family 😁

I'm shipping theses FIFO - first orders in, first out. If you request a serial number and it's available, you get it. If it's not available you get the lowest available serial number. Past that, thanks for your patience and support.

Since the orders have been open again for two weeks now, I'm going to let you guys order 2nds / 3rds and open this up to the rest of the forums now.

Thanks for all of your hard work & dedication Spark Spark !
We truly appreciate it & look forward to the fruits of your efforts. We may seem impatient but we're just excited & can't wait for them to arrive & get them in hand 😎

Totally agree Rob, I do think we are spoiled though with our love for the jigging on vintage knives. GEC can do decent jigging but unfortunately the jigging on this years forum knife is not one of the better jigging patterns.
I also appreciate the time and effort that Spark and others put in on getting us an annual knife and like you will see what it looks like when I receive it, if I really hate the jigging will probably move it on.

Fresh out of the tube is #007.

All pictures are untouched & unedited under a cloudy day today.

Blade is sort of a satin, somewhat reflective, but not a mirror finish at all. I really like the lighter colors on mine.

Really smooth and easy pulls, beautiful click and lock up, very solid feeling, it feels strong and ready for work.

Thank you Spark Spark for all of your time and effort, it’s perfect to me ❤️👍

yes,its a fine line...this 82 from 2018 whilst the same in colur ..has to my eye better jigging ...although similar in its mechanised style it is imo more trad looking ...also on a tad over 4inch frame....View attachment 2739877
Meako that 82 is much more pleasing to my eyes, the jigging and color are nice

That's a lovely old Keen Kutter, John! I realize it would be cost prohibitive for GEC to replicate bone like that but, they certainly produce a well made knife, maybe when it's in hand I'll warm up to the jigging and light dye job.

I appreciate knives on visual and tactile levels. While the jigging may not be the most appealing (I think that honor goes to that early run of GEC-made Schrade trappers) to my eye (at least in renders and pictures on a screen), I'm willing to leave the door open for it to hold greater appeal to my sense of touch.

As Fabienne said in Pulp Fiction when discussing pot bellies with Butch: "It's unfortunate what we find pleasing to the touch and pleasing to the eye is seldom the same."

Not to mention, I feel like I've seen some really visually unpleasant jigging out there and, for me, this doesn't even come close. I think "not exactly what I was expecting" (prior to the rendered images) is probably closer. The hill I'll die on though, is that it should have had a serpentine shield. Fortunately, I've never met a knife where the shield was a deal-breaker.

I'll reserve final judgement (not that anyone should care what I think) until after I've had a chance to tote it around for a spell. I think, for me, that's the only course of action that makes sense. 🤷
