Bladeforums BEST BOWIE - 2008 Edition

Coop - fantastic! That's the D'Holder I had in mind. First shown on the forums in '08 would make it qualify, even if it was made a while back.

I'm just glad to see at least 1 JS... was looking like a MS competition (of course that's to be expected somewhat but.....) :D

Fabulous knives. Marcel......did Dutch Customs destroy that Bradshaw because it had an ivory handle?

I'd love to see that Josh Smith Bowie that Buddy Thomason shot (gold color blade, multi-bar, mammoth handle). I don't have the pic on this laptop.

Don Hanson's is my only vote, just too many others to choose from.

Man you guy's are off to a hell of a start with some of these blades. Mr. Hanson sure seems to be making a strong showing deservedly. The blades I got in 08 can not compare But of the one's I got in 08 here are my favorites. There is a Lamey that I need to get better pics of but to start
1)Fisk Wolfstooth and stag

I know some of these do not belong here but they are the favorites in this class that I recieved in 08

Here some bowie's made by a bald maker. I even got a hat from Hair Club For Men. I had to make it myself but I got one.

Here's some of my bowies that were all made this year. Most have been seen here once before. All won awards here in the northwest.

Best Bowie, OKCA 2008

dammit Ray, you beat me to it.
p.s. I checked out the Uganda knife link, and just want you to know that I think that's a really amazing thing. Good for you.

My two entries would be:

1) Don Hanson, MS 9-inch fighter -

2) John White, MS 11-inch fighter -

It is always a treat to group all of these great custom bowies together in this thread. It has been one hell of a year!

- Joe

Joe that #1 Hanson is the one I have been waiting for someone to post. Might be my fav of the year

JP - those ALL belong. Thanks for posting.

Ray - great to see a maker participating - you should be really proud of that lineup. The Blade West 2008 Best Fighter is one AWESOME knife!

Joe - exquisite taste as always.

Remember guys - we're not voting yet - just assembling as many nominees as forum members want to put forward over the next couple days. Re-posting a knife that has already been nominated will not (yet) count as a vote for the group of finalists. The close of nominations will precede that round of voting.

Keep 'em coming gents.

Roger

many of my favorites for the year are already posted, but there are always more to add to the mix.
Unfortunately, I don't have access to my Photobucket from here, so for now we'll have to make due with the thumbies I've gathered on this computer.
But I'll come back to amend and add to this post over the next couple of days, if that's alright.

#1- WildGoo collaboration, one of the coolest ones yet, in my eyes.
#2- A favourite Ray Richard knife of mine. Yes, I know, all his knives are my favorites, but this one's super extra cool.
#3- A serious utility bowie from Bill Buxton, with great lines
#4- A classic but oddly unconventional looking knife from John White. Something about this one...
#5- Dave Lisch is a big fan of giving pirates options, hence this beauty and brute of a knife

p.s. that Hancock dogbone gives me the willies! It's in my top three, for sure.

Lorien,

Some old geezer named John made the #4 in your 34 post, it's OK, I forget his name sometimes, too...

I think that #4 was made by John White.

This D-guard by Bailey Bradshaw is the one that made me decide I didn't dislike D-guards anymore:

Someone mentioned this one a while back in the thread. I happened to have a picture ( a Point Seven photo). This is Josh smith's Searles Bowie which will be awarded as a result of a raffle at the ABS Show in San antonio this year.

Lorien,
Thanks for remembering the Pirates Choice Bowie but the bowie that saw the most of my time was the Ironwood Voodoo Mask Damascus, to me it is the best knife I have made at this point.
