Bladeforums BEST BOWIE - 2008 Edition

Some really mind blowing work in this thread. I'm glad Terry Vandeventer's bowie popped in as well as all of the rest!

Thanks for the call out Jon. And double thanks Coop for posting Kyle's #46 knife. Love to see this talented young man in the limelight!

Description of this knife; 1084 and 15n20 Explosion Pattern Damascus, Damascus and German Silver fittings, Mammoth Ivory handles. This knife consists of 28 pieces all handmade by Kyle.

Would be great to see descriptions of posted knives if available going forward.

Sorry for the late post. My mother-in-law is still here from Christmas. Haven't been viewing the forum as much lately :grumpy: Ooops...gotta go, time to feed her again

Cheers!
Rob

"Oak Leaf" Bowie and sheath by Mark Banfield (banfieldblades.com) is 17 1/2" overall with a 12 1/2" blade hand forged from 1080 steel, brass S guard, and carved African Blackwood handle. The sheath has brass mounts and frog along with a collar for belt carry. The "Oak Leaf" medallion is also by Mark.

My personal favorite for special reasons is my Dave Kelly fighter that he made to match exactly a hunter I already had from him.

It was made from a Billet of W2 forged by Don Hanson III and when Dave was finished to a point with the blade Don came to my aid again with the heat treatment.

The handle is a 28 piece frame handle topped of with gorgeous stag and bronze and copper fittings.

.Here's my entry. It's a Craig Camerer 9" "Slim Pickens" fighter with damascus, bronze and mammoth.

It's bowie heaven again on Bladeforums. Thanks guys.

I figure I'll leave nominations open through Monday and then we'll close up and vote for the 5 finalists.

As many terrific bowies as we've seen, I know there are many more that should be seen, so I'll give the stragglers coming back from holidays a little more time.

Paul - thanks for finding a pic of the Josh Smith bowie, AND for posting up that gorgeous Dave Kelly piece as well.

Roger -
I am out of town until Tuesday and have absolutely no access to my images until then. I wanted to add my Curt Erickson sheathed fighter (the one in this avatar), since it qualifies for this. I also wanted to add another image of the D'Holder Bowie, that shows the pommel and guard details better than the full, long shot. Hope you can keep this open until Tuesday, or perhaps Coop could provide the two shots, since he did the imaging.

Thanks!

Bob - either way we'll get them in. Coop is welcome to post up the pics on your behalf or flip them to me and I'll add them to the thread. Failing that, will hold 'til Tuesday.

Roger -

Here are the two images of the sheath "Bowie" and the second image of the D'Holder Bowie. Tonight I don't have it all together and only just realized I needed to go to my email and find the links Coop gave me - so here they are!
