Bladeforums BEST BOWIE - 2008 Edition

:eek::eek: Incredible selection so far. I don't own any to compare and I can't think of any that have not been posted.

....but I am enjoying the show!:D

Here is one you may not have seen yet, Peter.
Edmund Davidson's "Overkill", just recently finished.

Overkill is a Full Integral made of 440-C with an all over
hand rubbed finish. The handle is ivory, scrimshawed by
Linda Karst Stone. The Engraving was hand chiseled by
Jere Davidson. Overall Length 17 5/8" (448 mm).

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

A full integral, outstanding in deed.
Perfect example of three artist who are among the very top in their fields of expertise working together to create an amazing piece of art.

Wonder how many total hours the three have invested in this piece.

Kevin,
The story of this great knife will unfold in my book. It did take
quite some time to complete and is truly the combined efforts of
three artists who eventually brought it all together...

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Here's a couple that deserve mention (wish I had some real pictures that would do them justice)

1. Massive Retribution by Jerry Hossom (12" blade, 18" o/a)

That's it from me. I posted 25 of the finest knives to come my way in 2009. (Not all, though. DH3 is a runaway in the front row.)

Likely not a legitimate candidate in light of the amazing work in the blades posted in this thread, but possibly an 'honorable mention' due to the time constraints that were faced, blood, sweat, sleep deprivation, blisters, godawful redneck music, spastic dogs, sugar rushes, allergy medication, poison ivy, hockey, bebop jazz, low ceilings, and constipation:

The Mojo
by Roger Pinnock and Yours Truly, with a mess of assistance by Dan Farr, bladesmith and knifemaker par excellence:

ddd - that is an outstanding piece by any measure.

Coop.... it must be so cool to be you. Tremendous entries throughout. I had not seen that Sowell piece before and LOVE the use of artifact ivory to reveal the tang. Very creative. And that Henry Torres piece is so crisp it looks like the picture could give you a nasty cut.

Matt - thanks for that one!

OUTRAGEOUS display of knives.

You are right David. I had NOT seen Overkill....it is KILLER for sure. "Orgasmatron" was impressive but Overkill does top it Three of the best at their craft.

This thread is addictive!!

Peter

You really have to work to get that "artifact" ivory to look good. I like the way that Bill has the pattern of the damascus showing through the hole. All of these knives are fantastic.......well except for those two from that hack in Florida and the one by the lawyer.......where are all of the warning labels that should be etched into that blade?:D I really like the handle frame on that Crowder piece.

Joe, you crack me the heck up dude. :)

That hack from Florida managed to cough up a pretty sweet pair of stag bowies.

Larry Fuegen - Dress Bowie. Larry made this Bowie and Sheath for the 2008 Solvang Show. Shows why Larry is not only known as one of the world's top knifemakers but top sheathmakers as well.

Be happy that you are a CANADIAN lawyer. If you lived down here, you would have been dulling the edge, rounding off the point and putting safety shields, bathtub grip tape and childproof locks on that thing:D

Kevin - top flight knives by top flight makers.

I can see that voting is going to be even tougher this year than it was last year. So allow me to further complicate the issue with some additional knives. :)

Okay, absolutely do NOT want to rain on this AWESOME bowie parade, but quick question.

Why are the Smith, Hancock, and Cashen daggers being called bowies???

Please don't get me wrong, they are 3 of the most kick ass knives posted... LOVE all three. I think the Smith dagger is my favorite of his knives TO DATE...

Just wondering why they are being categorized as bowies.

THANKS! :)

Edited to add, I somehow missed John White's dagger! Love it too.

And for the record, I have no knives to enter in this race, so I'm not trying to gain any votes ;)
