BladeForums.com COVID-19 Response

Everything has been shut down around here. Even my chiropractor as it's not a "necessary medical profession."

Just got an email from my village with a list of restaurants that are staying open for carryout and drive through only.

They even shut down the local crackhouse. My supply is dangerously low. I'm having to ration. Getting the jitters...

Eye specialist rescheduled to June. Lots of voluntary closings in restaurant sector. Ghost town.

You can try making your own.

The concealed handgun license process has been suspended in a liberal county near me. Cities being shut down, thousands of CEO's stepping down, and now this.

I'll wear a tinfoil hat from time to time, but something in the back of my head is screaming "get ready"

The usual order of events:
1) Curiosity
2) Concern
3) Fear
4) Panic
5) Frustration
6) Anger

We are at step 4 now, all bets are off on what could happen should we reach step 6. I wouldn't be surprised if China gets vaporized for what amounts to an undeclared biological war on the rest of the planet; costing countless lives and many $trillions in wealth. Widespread mass anger, and how that anger gets directed, is a very dangerous place to be.

I've already started making my own....

This is the best info and facts with a summary by a damned good Local doctor. His father was a highly rated orthopedic surgeon as well.
Not sure just how accurate any of that, or any information being circulated for that matter, really is. There are a lot of assumptions being made as to numbers and percentages, specifically the number of people who actually are infected vs how many have tested positive. If, as many have been saying, the number of people who are or have been infected and never knew or never got tested is far higher than the current number of known positive tests, we may very well be at that 5th cycle already.

This thing has been around since before Christmas at least, who knows how long it has been out in the world undetected, masquerading as flu? Nobody even knew to test for it until the last week or two. With the amount of travel to and from China, there is no way its just now being spread to other countries. For that matter, my town has a significant number of residents that regularly travel to China, Hong Kong, Taiwan etc. A few weeks ago a lot of people in town had "flu-like" symptoms and many of those didn't test positive for the normal flu thats been going around. The kids just had a minor fever for a couple days, adults were coughing and wheezing for days, a couple weeks in some cases.....

It strikes me that for the price some are spending hoarding toilet paper they might as well go ahead and install a bidet. Also, I find it amusing that the water aisles at all the grocery stores are empty, except for a full stock of Dasani.

I am looking forward to some time off and some gonzo cooking!
I bought a ton of puff pastry and am going to try some homemade
hot pocket action...chicken, beef, both with cheeses...you name it.

Since normal meat is gone at the store and I wanted a treat, I bought a beef tenderloin...beef wellington and filet medallions are on the menu!!!

I know people are panicking but I have been stocking up since January.
We will be fine. I am surprised to see the scramble for guns...I find that
kind of doomy. I am set there too...and have been for decades.
I don't need any knives either.
I hope all of you get thru this fine and don't get sick.

Don't be afraid...fear is useless. Try to be the best person you can be
and it will be ok. Disasters happen...rise to the occasion!

Doctors are not making assumptions. Figures are based on facts as they come in. Estimates have gone up as more info is gathered. With so many choosing to poo poo this threat it will only get worse. We have in fact one Republican U.S. Senator encouraging folks to disregard the warnings and go out and circulate in public i.e. movies, concerts, dining, sporting events etc. Such foolishness could turn this into a disaster. To deny the scientific medical fields knowledge of this could kill close to a million folks before nexxt winter comes around. Perosnally I am urging everyone I know to stay calm and heed what the CDC and WHO are advising us to do. Are we so greedy and self centered as to risk others innocent lives? VERY important to think of the elderly and infants who wouldn't stand much of a chance. How about if the hospitals are stretched over their limits(which could very very easily happen) and YOU need medical treatment? It could go from treatment to a need for hospitalization in the blink of an eye with no where to go! Stay calm and vigilante. Do as they ask. For once lets not screw things up more than they are right now.

There is more information than CDC is giving the public. For example,
Fecal-oral transmission may be part of the COVID-19 clinical picture, according to two reports published in Gastroenterology. The researchers find that RNA and proteins from SARS-CoV-2, the viral cause of COVID-19, are shed in feces early in infection and persist after respiratory symptoms abate.

From JAMA
The toilet bowl, sink, and bathroom door handle of an isolation room housing a patient with the novel coronavirus tested positive for the virus, raising the possibility that viral shedding in the stool could represent another route of transmission, investigators reported.

I think they are understating the problem and are responding on the fly.

INVESTMENT TIP! :D
Hey, I heard there is a new cryptocurrency that you should consider investing in, especially during the pandemic.
It comes in sheets on a roll.
It is called buttcoin.
Maybe 10% of your portfolio???o_O

Three weeks ago Italy reported 300+ Coronavirus infections. It stands at over 25K as of today.
Yes, of course the numbers will increase as the amount of testing increases, and Italy is now testing anything that moves from what I hear, 70,000 or more tested to date.....so as a result the numbers are climbing fast. Its not that its spreading faster, its just that the testing is catching up to the actual number of infections. Meanwhile, in the US, the CDC and the other government agencies are still struggling to deliver test kits so they can begin testing.....so far maybe 25,000 tests have been done by CDC and private sector labs...

The percentages released are in fact assumptions since they only know how many have tested positive and how many have recovered. Since they don't know how many actually are infected, and probably won't ever know because of the flaws and delays in the testing process, those mortality percentages are not valid by any stretch of the imagination. You can't claim a 3% mortality rate if you haven't got a true representation of the number of people infected.
If the actually infection rate is closer to the 100x the given estimate that some have claimed and the huge majority present little or no symptoms, then the percentages are not really any worse than the common flu. However, since nobody knows what the numbers really are yet, there is no way to determine a true percentage. What is out there is a guess based on what testing has been done so far. That does not mean in any way that the infection itself is any different than what it is. It still hits pretty much the same segments of the population as the flu, just harder, and it does seem to affect smokers more than non-smokers.

This is all true. The artificially low numbers were also part and parcel of why Italians ignored the government pleas. Just as many Americans are ignoring it now. It seems a few of them frequent this board.

On another note, Jack Ma of Alibaba just donated thousands of masks and test kits to three affected countries including the US.

Some people here in NYC are expecting riots this summer if the current restrictions stay in place as Trump opined tonight. There will be a lot of out of work people.

I was standing on an overlook near my home on 9-19-19. It was the last day of operation at TMI, and I was taking a photograph. I remembered the crisis from 40 years ago, and I don't recall much more panic, than what I'm seeing now.

I sometimes think there’s a secret conclave of Baby Boomers who meet every year and decide “hey, what else can we fuck up in the world that we haven’t already?”...ironic they would get their own plague now
