I voted for GEC, mainly because all the knives I have from them are real fine quality. I don't own any CSCs. But, like every year, I'm in for one of whatever wins.

Thanks to Charlie and all the others that help bring the forum knife to us every year.

This one was easy for me. I voted for the CSC because it's way more pocketable: slimmer profile, rounded shadow pattern. I really would love to see micarta scales on this one. The birds eye pivots should be less of a stress riser than normal pivots, and bocote is pretty tough stuff (and I like the cut used on the prototype - not too stripey) but I am a total klutz and I know I'm going to drop the thing. In my brain, micarta goes with stainless and wood goes with carbon steel. CSC's Panama Linen micarta is pretty stuff and I'm sure it ages well.

As far as the shield - stick with the bomb unless we can get a pinned version of the CSC shield (I actually like it)

As I almost mentioned in several threads before - CSC offering is working just fine for me. :)

Definitelly my vote.

Not sure why this poll needs to run for 10 more days. Kind of like political elections, you can usually tell how it going to go after the first 10% of the votes are counted. How many more polls do we have? One for shield, one for type of wood?

John, I agree with you, with CS having such a massive lead there's really no way GEC will catch up - unless they do what I suggested and base their offering on a round bolster model. But they're not going to do that. :D:D I politely suggest a new poll to move things on.

So, I voted CS because a large square bolstered knife just does not appeal to me whatsoever.

A lot of people have voted in the two polls, this should guarantee CS a big order.

Thanks, Will

Nawwwww, let it run John. There are people on vacation who might appreciate it if they could cast their vote when they get home. It is a pretty lopsided vote but we oughta give the max amount of time to give the max amount of people a chance to vote.

Yes, there are others like me who do not have any computer capability away from home - no portable laptop, tablet, cell phone with all the gizmo gadgets, etc.. I'm a good example. My cell phone is 11-years old and all it does is let me receive calls and make calls.

Anyway, let it run. No harm will come of it.

Exactly why the poll should end as originally posted.

I voted CSC because of the shadow pattern and I don't have any CSC's in my rotation.

Fine by me, I understand that everyone should have their votes counted. I wasn't complaining, just kind of looking at the calendar.

I am not in a particular hurry myself, but I know people like to have knives in hand before Christmas from what I have read in the past years.

I had a lot of catching up to do on the discussions for this but I think Canal Street is a worthy pick. I like the blade combo and the fact that it's a shadow. Also, their initiative in making prototypes so early in the process is refreshing and indicates they'd really like to do this project.

I may have missed a post concerning any options on the wood or if it's certain to be bocote. The more I thought about it, the more it didn't really matter to me. The CSC is the knife that is set off from the rest of the herd. The one that due to its uniqueness should represent this forum, so that is where I'll cast my vote.

so if it's CSC then the remaining poll issues would be handle material and shield . . . but handle material could take 2 polls, wood vs synthetic then which type of wood/synthetic. So that's 3 polls, maybe to save time they should each last only a week? That last issue could get pretty interesting, I like wood but I wonder if CSC would do bronze LSCF? Not exactly traditional . . . . but it would be wild!

Actually thinking about it more, to decide between wood and synthetic we would need to know the available option for each. For instance if CSC said "the only synthetic material scale option we would do on this knife would be a hot pink burlap micarta with silver speckling" that would kind of steer my preference towards a wood option . . . .

I would love one with modern materials, I really like the old design with a modern take on it! :)

The choice here is based on Bocote being the material for the handles.
CSC has a supply of the material, and can provide it at a good price.
GEC is willing to give us jigged bone, because they do it in house.
Both companies are with the program!!
Let us not forget custom/modern materials will up the price significantly!
The goal here is to make a nice knife available to the majority of those who enjoy these forums and participate. I personally like toting a Forum knife around because it gives me a reminder of the brotherhood/sisterhood we share here.
I hate it when someone cannot afford that!
It may not be a knife I would have made as a custom, but I will be proud to carry it because it'll be a badge of membership with you all.
And make no mistake! It will be a well made knife, no matter what it turns out to be!!
