Blades & Bourbon

They are lots of unicorns and curios around. My most valuable bottle is probably the Old Ridgemont Reserve 1792, barrel select.
I've got 2 bottles of the original Angel's Envy Cask Strength - both signed by Lincoln Henderson - in their original wooden boxes.
I don't know what the value might be, never bothered to look. I almost wish I hadn't gotten them signed because that first cask strength release was fantastic.

Edited say - apparently, I lied...only one is signed. I thought the friend I brought to the event brought the 2nd bottle up to be signed. Maybe he did and I let him keep that one. Who knows - it was nearly 10 years ago. I just noticed that he signed the inside of the box, as well.

(I'm not sure what the bottom writing is. Maybe Wes was there, too?
Value to somebody named Harold might be more than somebody with any other name. Heck, it hurts the value for me because he spelled my name wrong, lol).

Looks like a "collector's item" to me. I get a lot of SH*T about not using the knives or drinking the booze that I consider a "collector's item."

So, my question to you is: Are you going to drink it? LOL! ;)

sgt1372 sgt1372 there are actually quite a few memories tied to those bottles. My first trip to KY, the dinner party, meeting & speaking with Lincoln Henderson, etc, etc. Heck that trip was when I met Spark...and I wasn't even a member here, yet; so I didn't know he was Spark. I did the bourbon trail on that trip to KY - was at Woodford when they were barreling a new wheat whisky, met Jimmy Russell at WT.
I'll probably keep the signed bottle intact; but now that I know the second bottle isn't signed, it might get opened with some special friends (though I have others I'd probably share first for various reasons)

I’ve been to estates sales with unopened old bourbon bottles partially full due to evaporation. Drink it before it changes :)

Pennsyltucky! Because nothing says "bourbon" like Harrisburg, PA... 😕
And my 2022 Birthday knife my 9 yr. old gave me yesterday evening. (I'm 99% positive my wife bought it though, lol).

Trying this for the first time

It's...okay. While this obviously isn't a nosing glass, the aroma barely reaches me, and it's weak even when I'm trying. I find it thin in the mouth, and without much finish. Flavor is decent, and it's easy to sip, so I can (sort of) see the appeal; but I doubt I'll be buying this again. For me, this being bottled at 101 proof would likely be an improvement, as I'm a fan of the RR Single Barrel at 110 pr (and I typically prefer 100+ proof bourbons).

Have you tried Knob Creek 9?
If you're referring to the small batch, I have tried it. I don't remember details, though - it was years ago. I don't think there was anything off-putting about it; but I've never purchased it again.
If you meant the single barrel, I enjoy it. There was a time that the 120 proof was a bit daunting, but I grew to appreciate it.

Referring to this one - KC 9-Year:

It's 100-proof and I quite like it.

For as long as I have been drinking it, the single barrel also carried a 9 yr age statement...hence my question.

I will admit that I'm not sure which of those is the more recent label, though I'm inclined to guess it's the second. I have been buying a local store's barrel pick for about 7 years, so I haven't paid much attention to the label in other places.

Yeah, it's a little confusing. Currently they offer the KC 9-Year which is 100 proof and the Single Barrel Reserve (which also says 9-Year on the label) which is 120 proof. Both also say 'Small Batch' on the bottle.

Next time I have lunch with my friend, I'll see if they have Knob Creek and (maybe) give it a try. Honestly, I'd almost rather try it at home so I can compare it to a few other things; but I'm not all that interested in buying a bottle just to experiment.

I just did some looking, and the Single Barrel label has changed a few times in the past 5 years or so - no wonder I can't keep track.

Since you're fond of the KC 9yr small batch, have you tried the 12 yr?

Yeah, the KC-9 has become one of my go-to favorites in the $35-40/bottle range (my other fave in that price range being the Four Roses Small Batch). I've been wanting to try the KC 12-year as well, but haven't been able to find it anywhere lately.

Hopefully it does not disappoint you. I like their bourbon.
I'm a fan of Four Roses Small Batch; so I guess I can keep talking to you
Cannot go wrong with Four Roses

When I was a kid back in the 50s (this was even before color TV!) I had to mow the next door neighbors' lawn when the two ladies who lived there -- the widow of a local doctor and her sister -- went away during the summer. In the garage , an old stable where they kept the push mower, was the roll-top desk that used to belong to the doctor -- and in one drawer was a half full bottle of whisky, but I never had the courage to open it (being brought up as a Methodist). Often wondered what became of that desk, and the whisky. (Fortunately, the Methodist part eventually wore off🥃.)

But wait !!! There is more ! 🤣

KC always being one of my favorites, most of the flavors and different ABV contain, always a solid pour.
If I may recommend - KC Double barreled Rye. Second bottle from left on my picture.
I find it excellent if you can find it in a store and it drinks as a Bourbon, not Rye, very interesting pour.:thumbsup:

I tried 12 and 15 yo releases. Still have some of the 15 yo. Not utterly impressed but they are smooth for sure.

I'll probably be hissed from the room, but I have to ask;
alcohol use (proudly?) and sharp knives, what could possibly go wrong?
The kiddies are also watching...
