Finally! First hike of the summer. As some of you may know from the EDC thread, I bought a house in the spring and have spent every day since renovating the place myself and getting it move-in ready, so I haven't been able to get out on any hikes lately. It's been killing me, so much so that I haven't been following the thread and need to catch up still.

On the bright side though, our new place is only just over a half hour away from this!

Wow, that is beautiful country! Congrats on the house, I bet that gave you many opportunities to use your knives. I hope all goes well.

One heck of a first hike of the season. I would be hard pressed to not make that hour drive every day

Many thanks! Most of them are climbable I think. The lake itself sits at about 5,800 ft, and the hike up to it was around 3 miles (6 total counting up & down) with an elevation gain of 2,300 ft from the trailhead. Then we hiked another mile and a half or so and probably about another 800ft up to the gap where I took the pics looking down at the lake (the 4th pic looks up at that spot from down at the lake).

The ridge with the peaks above the lake in the first three pics is actually accessible from the same trail, and I think that adds about 1,000ft of elevation. The trail splits about halfway through and you can go an extra 2.5 miles up to that peak. Definitely doable. I'm sure I'll have to tackle that one before the year is out, but since I love lake hikes so much I might try to do both in the same day.

The snow covered peak in the distance is Rainier (this whole area is within Mt. Rainier National Forest), which sits at 14,400 ft, but since we're not much above sea level here the prominence is actually over 13,000ft alone' (I'm pretty sure it's the most prominent in the continental US). That one is climbable, and many do each year, but that's more mountaineering than hiking.
