Photos Blades on Hikes

Do you carry some sort of water filter with you?

I use a Katadyn BeFree and am very happy with it.

Sawyer Squeeze is a popular alternative which most thru-hikers use. Very small and you can screw it on a regular PET bottle.
Yes I do. But didn’t have the correct connector or pouch. Total brain fart to start!😞
Running out of water will never happen again!! It only takes one time. 🤨😂

Some how I forgot to take a knife pic. Added 7.4 miles to the remaining total yesterday. HOT Trek and still slippery. Fell 4 times, ran out of water and generally a really tough day. 🤨 Was glad when it was done and you won’t hear me say that again!! 🤣

Running out of water really takes the love out of a hike. Like was already mentioned, Katadyn BeFree and Sawyer Squeeze are good. I carry a MSR pump and tablets (depending on the quality of the water in the area). I like the MSR because it threads perfectly to my Hydropack and Nalgene bottle, plus the fact that I could be pumping up to 12+ liters for a group to camp.

Got in a 4.5 all road walk today. Chipping away at the last miles.
254.3 total of 286. 👏
Going at it again tomorrow. 👍😁👍
And on a side note. This past Saturday was my worst day and I also ended up with a real bad bout with poison ivy!! Trip to see the doc was in order. Seems we got it under control. Was a few really itchy days/nights!!

Yesterdays 6 miler.. Beauiful day!! LOTS of spider webs too!! And I mean.. LOTS!!! Guess no one had hiked this section in a long while..
The 4 knives pictured have been with me EVERY step I have taken on the TREK!! The first 2 weeks I took along a few others but these have been my steady!! I also realized that I dont like a knife on my belt while on this Trek.. Dont know why but I dont.. Must be my hiking style??
Chip, chip, chip.. Getting close!!!

Me neither, I just don’t see why I would need to. Some say that you should have knife in your belt in case you need to leave your backpack behind because of a hungry bear or something but I take my risks.
When I go out with the wife on our slower hikes a belt knife is fine..🤔 But while I am moving along on my Trek it just seems to get in the way.. So I put it in my pack.. Must be the way I walk and move that it bothers me?? 😂
John:)
