Photos Blades on Hikes

Don't normally take pics of knives on hikes, but this was at the end of a particularly long hike and we took a breather at an old wooden bridge river crossing not far from the trailhead.

If you ever go hike in Colorado, staying in Steamboat is one of the best places. It's far enough from Denver that you don't get the day hikers from town. Trails are not crowded at all. We saw two people on that hike all day long. And one was a Bigfoot or Donald Sutherland. 😂
Thanks for the tip

Friends of ours (who lived in Boulder at the time) won a week's stay in a palatial rental lodge in Steamboat in a raffle, and we were among a few couples they invited to stay with them.

Enjoyed the stay very much... Really liked the area! :)

Very cool. There is some really cool shops in town. There is a girl that makes custom boots out of any skin you want, Amazon Cayman, etc. If you're a hiker/camper it's a great place to go. Bailey is another place.

Just as I was starting to feel down about the quickly shortening days and the end of hiking season, I found a little spot that is less than 10 min from the house! Nothing spectacular (only because I'm so spoiled out here), but still a few miles and an elevation gain of about 1,000ft, up to a fire lookout that sits at 1,800ft. At that elevation it should stay somewhat accessible throughout the majority of the winter (🤞). There's a labyrinth of trails to explore ranging from a gravel access road, to multiple maintained trails through the forest, to unofficial ones up the rocks known as "goat paths". You can guess which one I favor ;). It was rainy and in the clouds this morning, but I plan to go back often so I'll get a clear view at some point. I might even make this my morning walk for a while. Did I mention it was just up the street from the house?!!!

Hope that trail keeps the winter blues at bay until you fly to Mosquitoe Bay
