Photos Blades on Hikes

Warmest it's been in the last two weeks, just about cracked freezing, right at 31° this morning

Count me as jealous as well. This is the time of year where we dream of temps in the 50s. Going to be pretty frigid here this weekend, not sure if I will get much for hiking miles in.
We never really get below 55 (high) and 35-39(low) this time a year. This year no rain and one Santa Ana event after another, Bone dry. San Diego gets heavy winds but not like LA. Supposed to be up to 70 next week. We’ve had the insane firestorms (2003 and 2007) too. Insurance is becoming a huge problem.
Looks like prime predator country
A few miles south there’s mountain lions on ring doorbell cameras and of course coyotes are everywhere. I’ve been riding/hiking backcountry coastal mountains since 75 and have only seen two cougars! Stealthy 🥷 animals

Sounds like Florida and hurricanes. Insurance expensive and build codes make it a place that is fun to visit but that is all.

Being on a doorbell camera is way inside too close for my comfort.

I’ve been to all parts of the country and always want to come home. Jobs, Weather, year round activities, Mountains, Ocean, And desert make Southern California amazing. Problem is, a variety of factors have made it almost unaffordable for our children, and it’s only getting worse.

The mountain lions are here and if you know what you’re looking for, The evidence is there to see. That being said, the odds are astronomical of actually being attacked. 😶

Edit: added video
There was a Male lion(p-22) in Griffith Park believe it or not, for a decade. Good video on Cali Lions.

I understand. Southern California has a lot of scenic and natural offerings. Seems a lot of places have similar factors.
Odds are probably higher of an attack from coyotes.
Thanks for the video. Will watch it Monday.

I've always wondered, what's the difference between a hike and a walk?
Not sure it's an official take, but my take, a hike is on gravel trails that lead to the woods with loads up inclines and declines (often in the mountains), and usually requires driving to a trailhead to start. A walk, I would say is on a level surface (or shallow inclines), usually on a paved or very refined gravel surface. But yes the lines are very blurred. Again, just my $0.02

Single digit temps today, but the wind wasn't as bad and the sun was shining. Decided to put in a few miles. Ended up with 3.6. Not a long hike, but I don't enjoy this weather as much as I used to. It was very peaceful and quiet out there though, and the sun made things look very nice.

Blade for the day was once again the Para 3 with CPM 15V blade steel. It is in this scene sitting on an oak tree dated to have been a seedling in 1644.

I’m thinking migrants or transients made most of the trails which are in a beautiful area. Was in about 2 miles when I decided to turn back from poison oak, and being in shorts! Popped out in a local industrial park so I climbed the hill to the top and circled back home. Zoomed in picture u can just make out San Clemente island through the smoke. Balmy 71F today.
