We've officially tapped into the lack of sunshine in the mornings - about 1/2 our hike was in the dark this morning, and with a cloudy/rainy day, it was barely light...

He tried his best to avoid the ticks, but still ended up with three so far - with his hair, I'm sure I'll find more as the day goes on, but he was happy as always:

I encourage my dog to chase them out of our yard, they scatter, and he gets a treat :) They're destructive and for me, useless animals.

Around my place at Lake George the deer population was 1.2 per sq mile till around 2010 or so......
People needed the deer for food and they were all ready few and far between... I think there's been less hunting pressure for a good decade and less poaching too and that makes a difference nowadays... I see deer all the time now..... As a kid I went decades seems like😉 without seeing a deer there.........

Now pest wise, where I lived in Northern Jersey my county had 40 per square mile.........

Like big ass Meece!!?🐭
 
Speaking of, they were like deer in a flashlight - they just stood there (maybe 15-20' away), no worries, watched us walk by this morning - you can't quite see the little one, but there were two, and they gave zero f's we were there - my pup was also not bothered by them:

Yesterday was the worst day for ticks I've seen this year - I pulled 15 or 16 off him.. so I added permethrin to his vest, and soaked a scarf in it as well for his chest - have only see one on him today (so far):

Today was a beautiful sunny 60deg day!! No bugs, webs or people!!
We did 6.5 miles and kinda felt it as we haven’t gotten out as much as we should have by this time of the year!!😒
Was a Great Day on the trail with the wife!! 🤗

The leaves this year are weird.in the Adirondacks...... Seems like 30% of the trees have NO leaves...30% have some color, Nuthin great🙄 and 40% are still green...WTF??????........Never seen it before🤔

Yours there are looking similar...😱

Same here.. Not a colorful fall like we usually get this yrear!!:(
