Photos Blades on Hikes

Got out this morning before the rain - supposed to rain for the next 5-6 days straight...

Warm enough that he didn't need his coat, but I assume that also means the ticks were/are lurking

You’ll be getting fiddleheads and trilliums soon. I can’t even begin to express how much I miss Maine. Especially now with spring as everything‘s about to come back to life!
Yep... got the first tick off the pup this weekend.. certainly back to life :(

I do see fiddleheads all over the place near me, not sure I've seen any trilliums, other than beers, though

We get 'em both here in the mountains of western NC.
Interesting. One of the things that amazes me about this particular area is the sheer number and variety of wild flowers at any given time. Funny how when they first sent me down here in the late 90’s to early 00’s I spent nearly all my time in the desert chasing people around and never really noticed them. Then I managed to get transferred back home and forgot all about this place. Now that I’m back here, it’s all I see. . .

Feels like 25°F this morning... after it rained all day yesterday, this winter really can go find a different part of the world... and the Sebenza decided to try and take the tip of my thumb, all for me to realize that I cleaned the truck up this weekend, and left the first aid kit in the garage... wrapped it in a poop bag ;)

So many pine cones, made for a happy boy though

That's Datura, AKA Jimson Weed, AKA Moonflower. Don't see it too often but one of my favorite wild flowers. Big pretty flower that blooms as the sun sets. Don't smell the flowers too hard or drink a tea made from the leaves (or eat any of it); or you'll be reporting about the wee people you saw on your hike. I've heard it's way too easy to overdose and just die from it also. But still, it's a neat flower that will attract big moths to it at night.

Grows wild all over the desert around here. Also produces little squash or watermelon looking fruit that I’ve been warned is also highly toxic. Very pretty flowers though.
