I must get a copy of this. However don't know who made the cover art, you won't find brown bears in the Appalachians. Plenty of black bears though, just hit them on the nose with a good stick. My great grandmother kept a thick hickory stick by the back door painted like a candy cane. That's what she used to chase them off.
I agree. The brown bear was a bit of artistic license for the cover art. It is a fun read. The book was written by a guy who was not quite physically or mentally prepared for the AT experience. I have hiked several hundred miles of it, which is enough to know that I am not about to try to do the whole thing.I must get a copy of this.
