Blasted my new ASH2

That's awesome!

What media and PSI are you using and do you need to protect the edge?
I'm using Ballotini general purpose impact beads. Not sure on the pressure. I'll check tomorrow. I dont bother trying to protect the edge. Instead, when I'm working near the edge I keep the nozzle blasting from the spine of the knife so the media blows past the edge instead of crashing into it. Even then they need to be touched up afterwards.

Please let us know if you see any corrosion on the knife due to the blasting. I have read other posts that suggest blasting the INFI will make it prone to corrosion and rusting.

Have a couple INFI that need to be stripped as well as a couple SR101

Thanks

I've never used a soda blaster but a buddy of mine showed me an aluminum soda can that he blasted with one and it came out looking like chrome. Pretty sweet. I think it would make infi look awesome but I have to wonder how hard it would be to remove decarb with it, if it is gentle enough to polish a soda can.

I know some people that use a soda blaster to clean their .22 cal suppressors, both aluminum and stainless.

I've done a few already and infi doesn't rust. I have had it get tiny dark spots. Not sure what to call it, but reeeeeally tiny dark spots and useually in spots that don get touched, lIke right next to the scaless at the pommel or ricasso. After the initial blasting, I oil it once and that's the last time it sees anything but soap, water and a rag. Maybe oiling would stop it. I don't know. They are such tiny spots that they are hard to find so I don't worry about it. I've never blasted SR101 because I think it would increase the potential for rust BUT I do think that if a guy blasted it to totally clean the surface and then followed with a quick polish, it would probably work pretty well. The stuff I'm blasting with leaves the surface pretty darn smooth so it doesn't take much effort at all to go from a frosted look to shiney.

Thanks.
Going to do the ASH2 and a coated AMS. The coating on the AMS is so thick it hurts the eyes.
The blasted finish of yours just looks so good.

Where did you get your glass beads from ?

Thank you. We have someone come and service our machine every once in a while. They bring fresh media with them.

Could you tell if the INFI was pitted or dimpled under the decarb layer ? I would think the blasting would get rid of any pitting or dimples.

Just read that long post on stripping and what to expect under a coated INFI blade. Seems like there was a lot of heated discussion in that thread and did not want to bump it up again. Gave you a good idea of what you could see under the coated INFI. One really positive aspect of the blasting is to clean up the INFI if that is important to you.

What king of wear would you expect to see on a blasted INFI blade after use ?

The decarb doesn't hide pits and blasting won't make them go away. The decarb layer is really thin. Its not like a layer of paint. More like the blueing on a gun. Wear on a blasted finish will be a shiney spot. Once I get a shiney spot, I like to take some steel wool loaded with a cream metal polish and rub down the rest of the blade to even it out. Gives it a nice look that's somewhere between the frosty blasted look and a mirror polished look. Kind of hard to explain so here's an example.

That just looks so good. What an outstanding finish when you are done. Going to give it a try as well.

That is a killer finish.
Ill bet that finish would look good on an ASH2 w/Tequila Sunrise grips.
Heck, it would look good on any blade imo.

Just got my ASH2 in today.
This thing is phenomenal!!
The balance, weight, ergos - everything is just Ace's!
And with those Tequila Sunrise grips, a very, very good looking blade too. (As are all Busse&Kin really)
At any rate, just so glad I was able to snag one.

As much as I liked the San Francisco Giants orange and black, I think it really looks like a serious piece of outdoor gear now. So without further adieu here she is in all her naked INFI glory.

beautiful.....

Id love to see that blade finished up with clampdaddys recipe!
I mean he did a helluva job already. But I think it would be magnificent rubbed down further...
I was looking at it last night, thinking the same thing. Lol! If I get a chance thus weekend it just might happen.
